Steiner C35 Gen 2 - Initial range trips and first hunt - Updated 9/30 with third hunt

It was Rusan that had the eyepieces with the screw on adapters that fit the C2. The U.S. distributor said he couldn't get them which is weird since he's the distributor. But you can get them online from Optics Trade if I remember correctly. https://www.optics-trade.eu/us/manufacturer-rusan.html
😎 thx for that, it made my search way easier.

All the clip-on monocular adapters that OT carries:

Just Rusan’s

Sorta looks like PJ’s adapter is right in-line, size wise, with other manufacturer’s 3x adapters. So it makes sense to just go with that, I guess.

Do you guys have a different solution (upgrade path) to having to buy a scope and scanner, separated by a year or more? Ideally, in the end I’d have a 30mm tube TWS and a small scanner.

I got the mount directly from them ... http://www.praezise-jagen.de/ Shipping took about 15 days because of customs and it was sent DHL to my door. If you order make sure you get the OBJ lens measurement correct.

@35L4S SOTIC - After your write up - decided to give them a try - my objective measures 46.3mm - go with a 46mm or 47mm Base Clamp?

@35L4S SOTIC what have your thermal experiences been with the G2 unit? And is your mount is continuing to work well?
This is my first personnally owned clip-on thermal optic. And I dont have a lot of (very little) experience with other models. So far I like this one a lot and it discerns objects very well especially at this price point. I't does not work as well as a $30,000 unit, nor should it, but it is better than a Pulsar hand held I have. The mount works great as advertised and I was able to shoot and zero with a paper target on a cool day - no heating the target - and it shot a little over 1 MOA group. The limiting fator (rifle shoot 3/8 MOA easy) was the reticle / thermal limitations at low power. It just does not have enough "pixels" to zoom in for small groups. More than enough for game animals - not for dots on paper.

Thx man!

Buzz and reviews on this unit are still pretty non-existent. Thinking it must be because of the mounting situation?

I think both of the mount systems (QD and pic rail) shown on this thread would seem to solve that issue.

I can’t even find other forums threads across the ‘net on this thing, let alone a proper YT vid.

Anyway…

@pangris @35L4S SOTIC @Ape_Factory any further thoughts on this unit?

I thought something like this would maybe get me by for a year. With the repeatable Praezise-Jagen mount, I could use it as both a scanner and weapon sight.

Then, when a kid exits college and funds open up, I could buy a fancy dedicated thermal scope in a 30mm tube format and use the Steiner as a scanner.

Is this unrealistic?
Sorry, just saw this. Have since played with another unit that used a 2X eyepiece and that was useful. If one of those fit, I'd consider it, but yeah - the mount situation is dogshit by comparison to something that arrives with a rail mount attached.
