This isn't South Park. Chefs don't work in cafeterias. The only good thing that came from that waste of tax money was that more kids started taking their lunches. Just like school closures during the scamdemic caused parents to realize their kids were being taught garbage, Big Mike's nutrition program showed them their kids were being fed garbage. Big Mike didn't get to be Big Mike by eating vegetables
Nobody claimed chefs worked in the cafeterias. What was stated was that renowned chefs were collaborated with to develop healthy and tasty meals, that could then be recreated at scale needed to feed a school population.

Big Mike did a good thing calling out how terrible the food in schools was at the time, and brought attention to the obesity issue long before it became a national security concern.

Since 2018 schools can now serve more processed garbage, so parents should be happy about that.

I agree with you, but I believe school lunch is a place where really good change and impact can be made. Once all the fallout gets settled from Trumps changes to the department of education, I will again look into supporting the local school system.

I believe the new emphasis on being healthy, and the trades programs, will be a positive. I’d love to fund a school’s trades program, and would even fund a quality school lunch program as long as the school will accept a restricted endowment so zero funds go to sportsball, and minimal funds go to administration.

Hell, I’d fund the hiring of new PE instructors if schools implemented a really good physical fitness program (not sportsball).
I totally agree that it could be made MUCH better. We should go back to gym classes that focused on conditioning and fitness like when I was in school; especially at elementary schools. We had to take the Presidential fitness test every year. I think that is what it was called.

Ummm, broccoli and cauliflower are healthy. They’re actually grown on farms…

Also, oat and almond milk wasn’t the push at the time. It was just healthier meals and food options. The waste came from kids not wanting to eat healthier options…like vegetables.

The push WAS for more fresh foods, balanced meals, with healthier preparation. Not lab made substitutes.
If my dogs won't touch it I won't eat it.

Correct.

Also, the term “peasant food” is pretty funny because up until modern times peasant food was quite nutritious.

Peasant food today is processed garbage, which makes fatties. Processed food and obesity should be treated like cigarettes and smokers.
Peasant food gave us one of the best thing you could eat Pulled Pork! The worse co called cut from a hog the Boston Butt and if you do it right 10-12hrs on a smoker is Heavenly bliss!

Schools got rid of Frito Pie... WTF..
current School meals suck. Schools allow kids to buy, energy drinks and soda with their meal plan.. WTF
as a parent, you have no say. you put $$ on your kids account and tell the school its for meals only. The school says they can't direct how the money will be spent.
The school lunch program was started, so kids could have at least 1 FULL meal of total calories for a day. Back in the day, not all kids were able to eat 3 square meals. So, the meal program was started so, even the poorest kids, could get their full 1200 - 1500 calories.
We were allowed seconds, after everyone ate, in case you were still hungry.
FK Broccoli !!
Since when it is the tax payers responsibility to feed children? People should be feeding their own spawn.

I have been told that some school systems feed three meals each day. WTF

Liberals just can't do it tho. They will burn the hell out of it till it catch on fire because they can't take the time.
Just stick a temp probe in it and pull it when it's 201-203 F, wrap it in foil, then a towel and put it in an empty cooler for at least an hour.

I don't doubt you in the least, but Sweet Baby Jeebuz, how tough can it be ?

Children are required to attend school under threat of parents going to jail, or children being removed from the house by CPS.

Since uncle sugar forces them to be there, I think it’s fair that uncle sugar should foot the bill to feed them. Healthy, nutritious, and free lunch is something I consider a good use of tax dollars. A quality PE program is also something I find provides value for tax dollars.

An obscene sportsball program is an egregious waste of tax dollars and should only be funded through donations and endowments from people interested in sportsball.

I also believe people without kids should have taxes reduced accordingly.

Hallelujah..........

Good riddance douchebag but just go in the same Retarded room as FJB is in and go lick each others assholes!

In AZ parents have school choice. You have private, public and charters. You can get vouchers to send your kid anywhere or home school.

I have noticed since charters came online that public system funding hasn't decreased even though attendance has. Parents with any sense will seek alternatives to public systems.

"Uncle Sugar" is us, the taxpayers. I for one am not for feeding any kids I didn't cause, regardless of requirements to be there or not. Take your lunch with you or buy it yourself.

OK, so taking this one step further......

Shred the cooked pork in a big, cheap, aluminum tray. Apply said sauce liberally to shredded pork and toss well, then more sauce when served ?

Sumptin' like that ? ;)

I agree that parents should foot the bill for food, but there are a lot of broke parents who can’t, and they can’t just not send their kids to school.

The money will be taken from you, regardless of how you feel. I wish that wasn’t the case and that taxes were lowered accordingly for those without children.

I’d rather tax money go to feed kids a healthy meal so that they can focus on their education. I do not want the money to go to administrators, sportsball, electric school buses, or DEI/gay/gender ideology.

Hopefully Trump’s changes will lead to much better education, which will lead to a more educated society. A win for all. If quality change does happen then I would happily fund free school lunch for the local elementary and middle schools. The funny part there is that nobody will get lowered taxes, lol.

The only gotcha there is the phrase "...be recreated at scale..."

That sounds easy but it is not by any means, and yes, I was a professional chef for a while.

Not being argumentative, but did you have kids in the schools during this time? I did, and the meals went to shit. The students who played sports had to have supplemental meals to get enough calories to practice and compete. The portions were smaller, quality and selection were reduced, and they stopped using seasonings. Now that things are out from under the Obama thumb, our schools participate in a farm to fork program that includes meals prepared from locally grown vegetables and local meat. It is a world of difference.
Thats what happened at my kids school. The large athletic boys were not getting enough food.

True. I’d say close enough would be good enough, lol. It’s hard to find people with that skill when the average school cafeteria worker in my area gets $10-$13 per hour.

Funds for schools are truly used in all the wrong places. Priorities are all messed up.
