Our politicians have realized that making us hate each makes it easier to get reelected. Our media sells hate because it keeps people watching. This isn't good for our country but the folks selling the hate expect to be protected by the government or safely retired elsewhere when the bill for all this hating comes due.

Surprisingly, I mostly agree. My thought is not "Donald Trump ruined this" its we are willing to hitch our ride to someone as flawed as DJT because they alternatives were that much worse. Bush Sr. appointed Souter. Jr was supposed to be against nation building/aka non interventionist. Reagan promised immigration reform. Contract with America lasted about 90 days before they got their hands in the till. Every freakin dem since time began runs on anti-immigration/remove govt waste until election day.
I just think its a dangerous game becuase as the "law and order/respect principals" we start off fighting with one hand behind our back, so when someone actually fights we are automatically attracted to them.

your point about "law and order/principals" is totally correct. have made it here myself. an enemy that has no rules and follows none can't be beaten by obeying laws and morals that they don't,haven't and never will recognize or follow. i believe that we are in,and have been for 100+ years,a fight for the survival of our country,culture,civilization and at times even personal survival. that has only been recognized by many in the last 20yr or so. those have have sought to destroy it have never placed any value on rules. we now have Trump with at least a semblance of power. he is imperfect but the program that he represents to many is at least a path to slowing the destruction and hopefully reversing it. last November's results could have been much worse and prob terminal.
First off those people are elected representatives doing what their voters want them to do and party ideology and priorities trickle up from the base.
