I'm looking at snagging a Midas Tac while they're on sale but not sure which one. There's the initial version, HD and now HD Gen 2. It's about $200ish difference between the first version all the way to the HD Gen 2 with the regular HD in the middle. For some hunting and light range work, what would you guys recommend?

I sold my original MT 4-16 because I felt the reticle was too thin for low mag and I prefer all .2's.

The only thing that put me off with my original MT 6-24 was for the same reason, it didn't have all .2's either. I have friends that love this scope as their favorite all timer and these guys win matches with them. None of these guys are willing to pay any more for a rifle scope and feel they've made the perfect decision.

A couple years ago I got the 34mm 5-25x56 version and love the APRS6 mil reticle. It's your basic no thrills long range scope. When switching around scopes it ended up on my go-to Mausingfield 6mmBR bolt rifle. Ha, everyone will laugh but my expensive scopes ended up on my expensive pcp air rifles I compete with. I haven't felt like changing the TAC out even though I should.

NO problems at all with any of them.

However I bet the new MT G2 is a killer scope!

I'd suggest the 34mm 5-25 gen2. Have had a few the gen1 5-25, they're good for what they are. Keep in mind, these are still Chinese scopes. I killed a few Athlons, Ares etr and a Midas tac on higher recoil braked lightish weight hunting rigs. My cronus btrs have been solid tho no problems with those.

This ^^^. Its also worth noting that the 5-30 G2 Tac has an illuminated reticle which is a new feature for the TAC line.

Darn that sucks those scopes got killed!

My friend has a ETR 3-18 and a MT on his long range 7Saum and 300PRC with out any problems but he doesn't shoot enough that I doubt he'll burn a barrel out on either.
