Yes. She was in a coma (not medically induced) from July 17, 2021 through the first few weeks of August of that year. Spent all that time in a trauma hospital and the moved to an LTACH where she spent about two weeks and they removed her tracheostomy but she still had the PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) and we transferred her to a skilled nursing facility 09-21-2021. And she has been here since then. Now, she is able to walk for short distances, better with a walker and goes in the wheelchair most of the time.
Her license was up for renewal in 2021 when all of this happened and we could do nothing about it because you have to go in person to present the same birth certificate you provided the first time in order to get a RealID. So, months ago, I made an appointment for February of this year and we surrendered her driver's license and got her an ID card. She physically cannot drive anymore and even though is cognizant and has memories and talks like she used to, she no longer has that awareness you need to drive.
I had not driven her car since August of last year for an MVI. Now, in Texas, a safety inspection is only required on commercial vehicles and is no longer required on private vehicles. Our county of residence is Grayson county, which does not have emissions testing. If it ever did, then we would have to get inspected for that.
So, I drove it a bit recently. I had to pull money out of my IRA to pay for a new roof and siding to keep my high-priced homeowner's insurance. One of the roofers wants to buy the car and my wife doesn't mind if we sell it. I could not find the title, so, I have applied for duplicate title.
