Just thought I'd ask about what folks have hanging in their house. I'd be the first to admit that I don't know much about it other than the mandatory classes in HS & College I had to take.

We're now at the point where we're starting to hang things on our walls that aren't pictures of ourselves and thus far have settled on two pieces from the same artist which are below:

Red Art Visual arts Paint Love

Hat Fedora Graphic design Graphics Fictional character

I can't intellectually say why I liked these particular pieces but I did/do and that's where I'm at.

Anyone here know a thing or two about art and/or want to share some pieces that they enjoy/may have hanging in their home?

Pride flag colors? Yea I'll show myself back out.....
Yeah- that's not what I shared here. Perhaps this would be more your style?

Honestly if it is- I'm kinda digging it too. Art is absolutely subjective and like I said- not necessarily a topic I'm well equipped to discuss other than to share the things that I like personally.

I also am a sucker for Michael Godard's work...

Again- I don't know enough about the topic to come across as 'smart' but just sharing what I like. I will say that there's a restaurant that I'm rather fond of locally that has Godard's art displayed (that's how I came across it) and when I went to look for purchasing some for myself it was out of my price range.

That second piece titled “sniper POV” ?

Wife and I collect Michael Godard and KRE8 also. We have some animation art, Jim Warren and a few others. When I opened the thread and started scrolling I knew who the artist was immediately, colors, style. Are those the actual prints or pics from the internet ??
Do you collect uniques or the giclees ? huge price difference. Our biggest issue now is running out of room, you do not realize how big some of the paintings are until you start hanging them.

All of our works are framed, some of them I did most were done by the gallery.

I have quite a bit of art. I like Wildlife Art, in particular Robert Bateman. Here's a pic of the art above my 65 inch computer monitor, I mean TV. I made the frames because I am cheap.

I also like mountain man art. Here are three of my favorite mountain man artists, from left to right, Tim McCarthy, Lee Teeter, and James Bama. The Teeter is in the middle and features hand embellishment and original watercolor. I made the frame on the right from walnut to make the print "pop".

A couple more by Lee Teeter, hand embellished Giclee prints. Frames were made from cheap assed cedar fencing.

I also have some art by Bev Doolittle that's kind of cool as well as several more Bateman works. I also have some charcoals by Josh Hernandez.
Speaking of charcoal art, I dabble in it myself. Here are a few that I did with inspiration from Hernandez and other charcoal artists. Some of these are just charcoal renditions of royalty free images from the web.

your tastes are about 180 degrees off from mine. that matters NOT 1 tiny bit. visual art is like music. likes and taste are all that matters. should always be a "to each his own" conclusion.

The pics I posted were from KRE8's website but are representative of the two we purchased last year. As you said, HUGE difference between originals (I believe KRE8's are in the 6 figures now) and giclees. The ones we have are numbered/signed giclees but they are framed by the gallery.

Godard does some really neat things though and we almost picked up the kraken one of his (mainly because it was a bit different) but ended up going with the other two. But I like his works mainly because I think they're fun. There's too many to share here but I'll throw a link below of some of his other stuff should anyone be interested.

I am a fan of Jackson Pollock's. Abstract expressionism works are enjoyable and calming to me.
I have a nice painting from Jakob Theileis who was part of the Antagonist Movement in New York. I'll have to take a picture and post it sometime.

I like the second one with the tuxedo. Enjoy the use of color.

Timely thread. I’ve been looking for some inspiration for my office walls. Problem is that I work with a lot of finicky clients so it all needs to be non controversial in any way but something I enjoy as well. Been difficult to find anything so the walls have been empty.

Hope this thread delivers for ideas. I also like the use of colors and the "faceless" element. If those are of interest to you I'll throw a link with some of his other stuff (I dig the astronauts ones myself)

This is really interesting, especially the frame choice. Would that be considered "gilded" (seems to go with the period dress).

If you don't mind my asking- who's the artist? I find the hat in particular to be a peculiar choice and am curious if that's intentional. Reason I say that/ask is that it appears to be the French style bicorne rather than the tricorn style more closely associated with the American Revolution (of course the rifle wouldn't fit either).

Anyway, appreciate you sharing and that's a really cool piece that I'd like to know more about.

Appreciate it- I couldn't make out the signature when I zoomed in.

I met the painter at a gun show in Chantilly, VA and bought this there. Here's his website:

Don't know any of the historical aspects of it, just thought it looked super cool and the intensity of the eye struck me.

Thanks for the link. I like the astronauts too. This guy does some interesting work. Very modern but I dig some of the themes and contrast between more bland backgrounds with bursts of color like that. There are a couple I might be interested in. Did you get prints? What did they run you?

They're numbered and signed giclee's framed by the gallery we purchased them from. As I mentioned to @ironpony52 originals likely would have been 5-6 figures so I had to settle for the signed/numbered option.

I can hear others balk already but they worked out to being about $1K each (the one in the top hat was a bit more but is also larger than the heart one) including framing & shipping. There likely were cheaper avenues to acquire similar prints but I liked them being numbered/signed and framed and since we weren't talking a swing of huge amounts of money I'm still happy with them and comfortable at the price my wife & I paid.

I don't know if I'm going to go "all in" with their art but there's certainly a number of pieces I'd like to add (such as the astronaut ones) and have a piece in several more rooms. It's hard to make out in the stock image but there's a texture to the giclee and between that and the colors, different portions "pop" depending on the light.

By many measures, these would be a bit too "loud" for my tastes but the use of colors really intrigued me, sort of like it was the genesis/creation of "something" (a person, a thought, an idea or belief, etc) and it's really neat (to me) how that thought carries over to the other pieces. Back to the parts that "pop" for me- it really seems to remind me of my childhood/less complicated days and lookin at clouds and seeing different images. I've seen seahorses, faces, human bodies, among other things in the mixture of vibrant colors at different points.

Not trying to peddle for this artist by any means (as I said I'm ill equipped to discuss the finer parts of art) but just providing context on why I like them. I know I mentioned the astronaut ones but apparently the elephant themed ones are also popular. I prefer the "faceless" works since I associate the colors with a genesis type of representation but to each their own.

Wow... You fuckers may be able to shoot but your taste in art will make white trash everywhere proud!
What I think is interesting if not fascinating with the topic is what one hangs on their walls is nobody's business but their own and they only have to make the owner happy for whatever their reason. One of the few things many agree is a topic that has no "right" answer and you like what you like and that's the end of it.

That was why I asked what folks have hanging on their walls and not what art they like and I haven't been disappointed in the slightest on what some folks here have. Really cool to see pieces that are from their own family and are every bit as interesting as any of the "pre-approved" pieces by the art "experts".

I'm biased but thus far this has been a really neat thread and has delivered in spades for me.
