Looking for some knowledgeable impact people. Was eye balling the 7prc proof prefit barrels on Brownells.com for $350 shipped and trying to find out what the scoop is on the 787R.

From what I can tell it has separate threads and uses a .750 bolt diameter.

Looking at the Impact website it refers to the 787r/787nbk.

Is the long action NBK the 787?

Or is the 787 a version of the nbk?

Is there anything wrong with the 787r for a hunting rifle?

1. Don’t buy an expensive action just to buy the cheapest barrel you can find.

2. 787 does not share the same tenon as the 737 sa or 777 la

3. 787 has a lapua bolt face option the rest do not

4. There is a 777 and 787 nbk - this is in reference to the split pic rail on top.

I've been looking at a 7mm for a while. My 28nosler is just too much of a good thing.

1. The way I see it. I plan on getting a LA action sometime this year to build a 7mm prc or saum. Unless there is something regarding the 787 specifically, Impacts seem to be highly recommended in general. So saving $500 on a barrel would tip the scale in favor of the 787.

Thanks on the rest.

I’m seeing a proof barrel for $480 on there but no other barrels. Is that what you’re looking at?if so, that’s an unreal deal and I would recommend that.

I’ve talked to Tate at impact before when I had my 787.
The 787 is just more robust and able to take the lapua bolts as mentioned earlier with the larger diameter bolt.
The 777 did not replace the 787, however they don’t make very many 787s anymore because it wasn’t a big seller for them (compared to the 737 respectively), so they came out with the 777 as a general long action option for people who didn’t need such a majorly stout action.
You’ll see deals on barrels prefit for it simply because they’re not flying off the shelves due to a limited number of people with that action. Definitely an absolute steal and I would do that as I love the 787 action and it would be great for a hunting rifle that’ll never fail.
The NBK (LA/SA) is a lightened split rail version of the 777 and 737 (lighter bolt knob, maybe weight savings elsewhere but not certain but same thread tenons). They did make a split action 787 but it’s not the NBK.

There’s nothing wrong with the 787R for a hunting rifle, other than being robust/heavy.

Also note, the 787R has different barrel threads than anything else Impact manufactures. Barrels aren’t interchangeable from a 787 with anything else from Impact at the moment, including long action NBK actions.

The 777 uses the same threads as 737 and 707 and all NBK actions.
