Accuracy International Picture Thread

I traded AXSR barrels with a member on here, and the tenon appears to be damaged. Would this need to be repaired on a lathe before attempting to fix the barrel to the receiver? Is the whole thing trashed?

I would think someone who chambers barrels can fix it. Will it ever be right, probably not, however I would think after smoothing that out you would never notice a difference had you not known about the damage beforehand. This might sound caveman, but to be honest you could probably do it yourself with some patience and a little time..

If it was any other rifle I’d be right there with you, but not this one.

Were you made aware of this damage prior to the trade?
I looked at the photos I received prior to the trade and believe it possibly occurred in shipping. However the box does not appear damaged. At this time I don’t believe anything nefarious has happened on the other party’s end.

Edited to include photo.

I'm going to be the odd ball out here i believe but I'd take a fine hand file to it and just knock down any proud protrusion. That's a non critical part of the barrel and the bolt face should be inside that outer part and not touching it.

If it was mine I'd contact the seller and see if I can get some cash if you are really upset about it (I wouldn't blame you if it was undisclosed) but in the end I'd do it myself like I said above. Just go slow and only knock off the proud parts and smooth it out.

Yea..sucks it looks like shipping did it. I have a guy about 30 miles from me that i have chamber a lot of barrels that i would take it to.

I always use a hard plastic cap on the end so this cant happen.
Hope it works out for you and you aren't screwed.

Based on that one photo it doesn't appear to be damaged at that point.

I’m back baby. Been through it the last couple years. Sold the ASR kit and now I’m back with an AXSR. Bought this second or 3rd hand girl here on the hide but she suits me. Oddly I prefer the paint on this to the paint on the ASR. That federal brown was shiny. This DE is flat. I like the flat.

I need to find a few things:

- 20 inch barrel (300NM or 6.5CM preferred)
- 22 inch barrel (6CM, 6.5CM, 7PRC or 300NM)
- bipod. Thinking of going TBAC but sold out everywhere it seems. Don’t like accutac, I’m still an old school Harris fan so may end up there for now till I can get a TBAC.
-Mlok forend
- short forend. I want to be able to run a 16 inch or 14.5 barrel. Need a shorter forend for that. If anyone has a lead on that or the Mlok forend I’d sure appreciate it.

…I’ll get it swapped to the Spuhr mount when it comes in Friday…

I really miss the older, blockier Spuhr mounts.

In particular, the really long ones which held on to the scopes further from the knobs.

I also miss the classic form factor of the Arctic Warfare Super Magnum.

But that’s just me…

“Hit it with your purse” gang was right. Talked to MHS and they said the same thing. Jewelers file and a few stones later it’s in the rifle. Very surprised how soft it shoots. First 10 rounds down the tube, and the last un-suppressed rounds it’ll see.

Always good when the problem isn’t as bad as first thought. Love those types of problems.

I think your talking about the 6518 contour. Has a really short breech length and then a quick taper down to like .900" diameter and it's .900" at the muzzle correct?

That contour would be lighter than a M40 contour.
Yeah, that’s it if you’re talking about the lighter AI barrel contour. My factory 20” 308 has a real short breach length and tapers fast down to .88” at the threaded shoulder. Thanks!!

Not sure what/who's #5 contour you are talking about.

What sucks is that $1 of filament and 1.5hrs of print time on a 3D printer could have prevented it 😞

Alright, I'm doing another round of invites to the Accuracy International Fan Club Discord Server. It's been built up into a rather nice place and with some wonderful members. There's a good chunk of you folks here on it so far but this is for anyone else who's been on the fence, or haven't had a chance. Happy Easter!

Problemo…

I didn’t even have to use my AK….

I gotta say it was a good day.

Took my nephew and 3 of my kids shooting. Here’s my 12 year old daughter ringin steel at 400 cause she can. AI AXSR + Proof Carbon + Nightforce + TBAC = Unmissable. So easy a 12 year old girl can do it.

Fantastic!!

Flat trigger gang. This trigger has been on my work bench for 2 years all alone waiting for a new rifle to go on. One of the best upgrades. But only if you love flat triggers like I do.

The one offered by @pfl338 with the little straight lip at the bottom is even better. I love a flat trigger shoe.

Got barrel chopped to 17” and threaded 9/16x24 for the old Tac Ops can. Zco is mounted but the rings are super low so I’ll get it swapped to the Spuhr mount when it comes in Friday and hopefully finally shoot it and the xc this weekend.

thats the catch 22 with the AX rear end. its higher than the old AICS chassis, but i always liked the old chassis height because i think where your scope is mounted now is how it should be, or its a more ideal location. getting that scope as low to the bore as possible is a big plus and why many of us like to the old AICS chassis cheek weld

I've heard this a number of times over the years, what's the advantage of a lower scope or where does it really benefit you? I've always run a taller scope and never felt like my height over bore mattered unless I was shooting in a cattle gate or something else weird...

Oh boy... The tall scope gang is simply NOT going to be able to let this stand...
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just because something works for you doesn't mean that it is correct. The advantages of a taller scope have been documented in many different threads. I tried it and have never looked back. It is very dependent on your anatomical build.

i like it lower because when shooting, i feel it helps you control the recoil better as everything is closer to being in line. but maybe its just a comfort thing. i did feel comfortable shooting my AX, it was just different.

and correct me if i am wrong, but a higher height over bore will mean you need more elevation dialed at range. maybe it doesnt matter to some folks.

i can get down lower on the AICS cheek and as long as my LOP is set well, i can be very comfortable. i feel its more when shooting prone, and a higher one is more comfortable when shooting from a bench.

If you're shooting 308 @ 1000 yards (Federal Tactical Tip 168 grain bullets), the difference is pretty small

Total sight height of 3.35" (1.93" Mount/ring height) has a correction of 11.20 mils
Total sight height of 2.65" (1.23" Mount/ring height) has a correction of 11.37 mils

That is about 5" of elevation at 1,000 yards. A more efficient bullet would be even less.

Man, if y'all are sensitive about 1/2 an inch (1.0" "low" rings vs 1.5" "NV clip-on height" rings) then I worry about you muppets.

We haven't done "scope as close to the barrel as possible" as a standard since the 1990s. And even then, it was about heigh-over-bore for accuracy sake. Now that we got these fancy gadgets called Kestrels and other ballistic computers that can compensate for a height-over-bore of 2.75" (ref: AT308 High Action Rail with SPUHR SP-5002 used as example) from the center of the action to the center of the scope, it's moot, especially when these rifles have at minimum 20 MOA built into their bases already.
