What level of Binos do you need for PRS 22.

Let me start off by saying, I do not believe spotters should be using Binos in PRS22 for 300 yard targets.. I have seen to many missed calls. I speak up so they get the points but it happens more than it should. i guess a case should be made that we dont shoot over 250. I dont mind the long shots as long as we have what it takes to make the right calls for shooters.

That all being said, I do use a spotter. I would though like to step up my Bino's. Mainly for trying to read wind a little better. I fail at the wind. I look for mirage, look at the grass, tree limbs, put all that is some mental formula that I think i have, start there for a wind call and work from there. I do wonder if I stepped up Bino's so I can see a bigger picture, better glass to see things I cant see now (cheap Vortexs that seem good for the money) would it be worth the upgrade? and how far do i need to upgrade? All the way to the Pures? Or will the Zeiss Conquest be far enough? I don't mind by once cry once, but I would prefer to hit the area where I bump diminishing returns on the money. Maybe the Bushnell Match PRO's are enough..

I hunt in the East so I cant make the case for the Pures for Hunting, It really would just be for PRS22..some day maybe for Centerfire..

I wanted to ask for some Opinions before I drop the NL Pure Nuke on my fun money bank account.

Those are in the Pure price range IMO.

I have the lower power UHDs, and what I'll agree on is that ultra clarity helps, but it's more an issue of magnification than clairity. The .22 dink on even a freshly painted target is damn small @ 300 yds. You can hear it, but not with three or four other squads firing away.

I bring my 80mm spotter and can "see" hits.

All that said, you really need sensitive flashers and more than one guy spotting to keep it fair.

I never shot a 22 match where a hit couldn't be accurately called, the target almost always moves or you will hear the hit.

Decent binos for spotting misses is nice, but because distances are close and targets are small have always found calling corrections difficult inless you are directly behind the shooter.

I've recently bought a pair of Athlon Midas pro 12x binos with reticle.
12x is a good mag range for 22lr, keeps a decent FOV for finding targets quickly.
Glass isn't great on these binos but at 22lr distances I don't find it an issue.

That is what most think.. I have seen post hits called many times..you feel like a dick when you have to correct the other spotter (usually Binos).. they saw the plate move, they heard the "hit"... I have also seen times where the wind Is blowing the targets, and you cant hear the hit, in this situation (I was the shooter) I was actually hitting the targets, but I couldnt hear calls due to wind..I actually just stopped shooting..Hoping the wind would die, they were big round targets at 200 yards.. To give you and Idea, I was holding 4 mills at 200.. I do not think anyone was being unfair or intentional just the sport we love sometimes.

My main point of this wasn't the above.. it was about is the jump from good glass $1000 to $1500 to the $2600 to $3200 range really worth it? For PRS.. meaning for environmental' s as far as reading wind and such.

I should have communicated that better in my original post..

Athlon Midas is still enough glass that you can accurately call a hit on post vs target.

I've used a variety of different binos for spotting 22 PRS and never felt the glass was the determining factor. More magnification helps at distance but if you need to do a lot of panning (targets in different stages on a stage) then 12x thems a good middle ground.

Maybe it depends what type of target is used at distance but even then I don't think $2000 binos is going to be the difference, a bad spotter is a bad spotter regardless of the glass used.
