Federal .22LR Gold Medal Target Standard, any good?

But not on par with SK or Lapua? I just got som SK Biathlon and it shoots like shit, I also have Norma match and that is super incosistent.
Yeah, it was a B level performer way back when, but it is now 3rd tier ammo, better than CCI but not up to SK rifle match ( which I consider to be B+)
Thanks for the info, it is so frustrating trying to find a good, reliable source for 22LR match ammo.
Biathlon is a very specialized loading aimed at reasonably short range ( 50 meters or so). Not a match round!
I found it was Not as good as CCI-SV, and for my VMTR the SK-RM is the best 'mid-range cost' ammo. I just buy a brick or two and know it's better than 'most other stuff' out there. I don't compete so Lot #s are not a consideration for me.
Not as good as CCI sv in my rifles. Both less previse and more malfunctions. I had to put a suppressor on one to get it to run mostly reliably.

The Federal GMM ammunition that I have has only been used in the Anschutz 64 MPR with iron sights. I've also had several cases of it since 2005. I'm down to about a couple thousand rounds now.
These two targets were shot from the bench at 50 yards.
These targets were shot with my shooting jacket on and slung from sitting and prone positions.

There were several variations of federal gold medal with similar names. I suspect long shot 231 has older more consistent ammo from when they were actually trying to make decent ammo.
To put this simply there is ABSOLUTELY NO current American made rimfire that is match grade! End of story.
Every once in a while ( no where near frequently enough to depend on it with any predictability mind you) you can luck into a good lot of CCI standard. But even the lucky lot of CCI won’t hold a candle to eley/SK/lapua.
I might have won the “ lot lottery” but have been very happy with SK pistol match special and biathlon when I can’t find long range. ( my understanding is they are all in the same velocity range - really the same ammo, with it being sorted by most accurate= long range, least Pistol Match Special and biathlon in between)

That can probably be part of the reason why some competitors in the NRL22 world have started using very expensive and well regulated air rifles.
Some air rifles that are pushing slugs almost as fast as a 22LR bullet are getting phenomenal accuracy.
Air rifles, especially the high end with precise metering valves, provide extremely consistent velocity. So, even if that velocity is less than some brand of 22LR, the consistency makes up for that. DOPE it out and they can be insanely accurate at the ranges we are talking about. Sure, it's not a 500m shooter but neither is a 22LR. 100m and in and air probably has the advantage.
