Hey guys still getting a few questions on what key style means, how to identify, etc. Hopefully this photo can clear up any remaining questions you folks may have.

I'm changing out the handguard, and the instructions don't say anything about the use of any grease on the coupler - I am under the impression anytime there is friction between 2 different types of metal, gauling can occur. How is the setup any different that a barrel nut on an ar?

Look up Galling on google. (Gauling is going to france.) You'll find lots of info on what is actually happening. Aluminum is a metal that does tend to gall and if the anodizing is removed through breakage, friction or anything it will expose nice clean fresh aluminum which is a candidate for galling. Threads are prone to all sort of issues because of how they work. An anti-seize compound is a good idea. I prefer nickel over copper because it is less likely to cause corrosion in the joint. Plain grease is better than nothing but not by a lot. For anti-seize compounds, Graphite (more corrosion issues like copper. look up galvanic corrosion) Copper or nickel are good to use.

I went back and forth over a used A1 or a new A2 for weeks. In the end I found a great deal on an A1 Covert and I’m very happy to finally own one of these rifles.

The covert chassis is actually brand new with zero rounds through it and it has a Bartlien 22” 308 barrel from Short Action Customs.

In the end I saved $2500 by going with a used A1 so now I can put that towards a better new optic and mount.

I’m really leaning towards a Leupold Mark 5 3.3-18 or something similar that is compact and relatively light weight to match the covert size. And maybe an ARC M10 mount.

Take a look at the Kahles 3-18. You can get one for pretty close to the $2500 you saved. Great optics for the covert.

Finally got to shoot my 6.5CM A1 today. It’s a frikkin laser beam.

First pic is 5-shot group
2nd pic is running it as fast as I could

In continuing my review of the new Covert A-2, which has been stellar, ie trigger is everything DT says it was, weight is greatly reduced and gun has better feel/balance, accuracy with reduced bolt tension is for real but now has led to one small issue which hopefully will be an easy fix. I noticed when using my A-1 bolt to chamber unloaded sized brass there appeared a very noticeable “smear” on the left side of the brass, not unlike an ejector mark from a hot round. I have attached pictures of this anomaly and several of the cases I painted the base of so the defect is easier to see. My guess is the extractor tension is too high, but I have confirmed other owners have run into the same situation with different calibers/bolts. DT has yet to respond and their engineering dept. is looking into it.

I think I am on to the problem here and it has to do with tension on ejector...not a gun or barrel issue...

Has anyone got a way to mount a DTA SRS onto a pack? I run a Kuiu currently, but their rifle carrier is too small for the dta butt. I don't really want to put the whole thing in the pack (though it fits) as it'll be too difficult to get it out quietly and quickly while hunting.

Do Desrt Tech bolts have different ejector spring weights for each caliber? For example: if I switched outa 243 bolt head and replaced it with 338 Lapua...is the same ejector spring used in both?
I do not remember seeing a difference in the springs themselves but I can say the 338 bolt has two ejectors.

Right now I'm using the Kifaru universal hanger, it's too small but it works, wore it for maybe 6 miles over 2 days and 1000' elevation gain/loss, no complaints. Im not sure it would be hands free for running, but walking is no problem. I'm going to buy the Exo Mountain K2 Weapon Carrier, I saw it in store, and it looked like it would be a snug fit, but a better fit than the Kifaru, nonetheless. I do like the way the way the rifle is held under the arm and muzzle up. Safe, positive control while still being quickly accessible. Just make sure you move some of the weight to opposite side to counter the weight.

I think SAC may be working on the 224 Val bolt. Just a rumor. But I will get one and have a barrel built up.

If there is a 224 Val from SAC in the next 5 years, PM me your email address and I'll send you a $20 gift via paypal. Meaning I bet at long odds it won't happen. Because there is no point.

Hey l said rumor. I am looking at ordering the 223 anyway. Talked with them today. Have a few deals going and as soon as I get the money it’s ordered.

You have sold me.

Same ejector spring and same ejector.
Somehow I missed your original post with photos, does that swipe happen with factory loaded munitions as well? Or only with your new brass?

Anyone running a masterpiece arms scope mount on their DT? I'm setting up a A2, that I don't have in hand yet, and am wondering if the masterpiece arms mount that is 34mm and 1.25in high 20 Moa can't will be high enough to aline with a pvs30. They offer a 1.5in high 34mm mount but only in 0 Moa. Scope is a 3-27 Schmidt.

I don't think it will work.

They changed the rail a bit on the A2 but you still need around a 1.5" height mount in order to get a proper cheekweld.

I wound up getting an ARM M10 QD that is 1.57" for my A1 as the 1.44" NF MagMount that I had was too short for me.

Regardless if the objective will fit, it will be too low to comfortably shoot.

It happens with both my brass and factory loaded ammo. I am using a custom barrel and since the headspace is to tighter specs we figured out the fix was taking the sharp edges of of the ejector...love the new A2. I look at it as a different gun entirely then the A-1. Not better/just different...

What’s your load details? I have a 223 conversion on order from them

75 ELD and 25 grains RL 15 loaded to 2.490” in Hornady brass. Full case, almost max
Load. Would be over max in Lapua case I’m guessing. 2950-3050 depending on factors
Including temperature, which I don’t sweat because it’s an 800 yards and in gun.

More than just a rumor now, this is straight from Mark at SAC in an email to me on March 1:

"Thank you for your E-mail and for your interest. We are planning on at the very least making a few prototypes of our bolt with a 224 Valkyrie .420" bolt face and possibly a 6.5 Grendel bolt face. Maybe even a 308 bolt face for cartridges like the 6mm Dasher and BR. We will make these prototypes in our next batch of parts. Please keep in mind, the extractor geometry is much different on those different cartridges, so simply modifying an existing bolt will not work. "

I thought this was very good news.
I am personally more interested in the Grendel, but I am thinking about the Valkyrie as well...

That’s interesting news. I would love to have a 6BR Barrel and kit.

Tried in the Exchange area but did not get any interest. I have a BNIW 300WM 6rd magazine that I am looking to trade for 1-2 SA 6rd mags. I can add cash if needed.
Also looking for a DT SRS QD brake for the 6.5CM barrel.

Thanks in advance

Two questions here:

1) Does anyone happen to know the thread pitch/screw size for the 2 screws in the cheek riser?

2) What is the consensus on using direct thread cans with standard thread .308 thread pitch (5/8-24)? Any quality adapters out there or is it best to just get the barrel re-threaded?
