Try to be a good man

My father is still alive, 81 this year.

He lived a very different life, was in the Army prior to Vietnam and then was in law enforcement for something like 33 years.

He got hurt in a in-service training sometime around 2000 and has spent most of the past 21 years sitting on the couch. 60 year olds don't need to be in law enforcement.

His addictions are my addictions; candy, bread, caffeine. He smoked most of his life, and is on oxygen now. Thank God, I never got into that.

But he is a good guy, and was always really kind to me. Hard to compare my life to his, as we have such different failures and successes.

He lost his dog of 14 years about a month ago, I never felt so bad for someone in my entire life.

Go to the Humane Society and get him a new dog 🐕

Dads are usually thought of as this super guy, but dads remember all of the failures they have had. At 60, I realize how I let my family down in the past. But when we talk, the kids only seem to remember the good parts.

If your dad is still around, tell him how much you love him, how much he's done for you. Because when he's gone, those words can never be spoken.

It may be obvious to you, but it's not to a whole lot of people. The people who need to signal their virtue are ignorant of what real virtue is and they have none. They literally cannot tell the difference between good and evil.

We are all fallen and live in a fallen world. View the easy path with skepticism. Walk upright and fearlessly as one who loves God so the He may love you. Grace removes all fear of death and sets you free.

Be your own hero.
