Picking up one of these two for a MK12 6mm ARC build. NX8 with illuminated XTR reticle vs Mark 5HD with CCH reticle (non-illuminated)

Can pick them up for the same price

I like the turrets better on the mark 5, that being said you can’t go wrong with either. I’ve used both for hunting and ringing steel. Honestly I’d take whichever one you could get the better deal on.

I like the Mark 5 better for eyebox and turret feel.

Clarity/resolution is a wash. Neither is going to stand out there.

Pick your favorite reticle.

I have both and they are but both good but I prefer the NF turrets, I don't like the Leupold fast focus eyepiece, and NF come with illum which Leupold up-charges for. The NX8 4-32mm weighs the same (like 1oz different maybe), is an inch longer, and is the better of the two. I've had one on a small frame AR and it's a good fit.

i like the NF mag range for the money. a little wider on the low end for close-in hunting. also their reticles seem a bit better. also illuminated which Leupold asks a premium for

I have the NX8 2.5-20 with MIL-XT reticle on a 6 ARC SPR style rifle and am really enjoying it. Glass is great, yes parallax is a tad finicky but totally manageable, for what you get I think it is a great optic for a precision gas gun. Mil XT reticle is great and turrets feel awesome.

I’ve owned both. Leupold had some CA, good turrets and easy to get behind. All in all, the glass just didn’t seem right for the money.
NF had terribly finicky parallax that I couldn’t get over but I loved it otherwise.

If possible, these are two scopes that I would highly recommend getting behind before buying—-and not in a store.

Ultimately I sold both and bought a Schmidt.

I use an NX8 4-32x on a rimfire a lot. Inside of 100yds I find myself focusing a lot of transitioning targets. Beyond 100yds I don't find the parallax to be that finicky. I've used it a couple times for PRS club matches also and have done really well with it. Most of what I hear people complain about is largely unfounded in my experience. I'm considering carrying it at Mammoth this year just to test a rig for NRL Hunter.

Not an exact answer to your question, but compared an ATACR to my 7-35 MK5 HD and the Leupold was definitely brighter and had better depth of field. Wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't seen it...not bagging on the NF at all it's a great optic.
