Does anyone know if those container ships are to large to go though the Panama Canal ?

Just looked it up. In 2018 the canal was enlarged and can accommodate ships up to 1200 feet in length, with a beam of 160.76 feet, a 50.2 foot draft, and 20 containers in height. I got it off Google--its on the internet it has to be true...

There question was not did they think of it. The question was why they didn’t do it. hlee it was for the smarter people on the forum
Well Don-n-Texas, lets noodle through this. Maybe it is because they have teams of logistics people who are paid to work the math based on actual figures, and are not reliant on the collective wisdom of the hide to net-source a solution. That is what I was implying. Alas, I had to explain it.

Or, is this a thread just trolling for a conspiracy hypothesis?

The ones that are in the water.
That was a generally stupid comment. The original post implied that something new has happened to some certain ship or ships. Other than that those ships have been camped out around the West coast for going on two years.
What would work is a new shipping channel cut along the southern borderline of CA,AZ,NM and TX. Deep and wide for multiple shipping lanes and would act as a moat for the illegals.
What would work a hell of a lot better is diversifying our supply chain away from China. It will be cheaper, work better, and be a lot more secure. Plus no digging.

Believe me if those ships could get through the canal and get unloaded on the East coast they would. These are estimates- 1200'X160'X50', about 120,000 dead weight tons is Panama Canal maximum which is considered a medium size container ship, about 12,000 containers. I believe many of the ships that will fit through the Panama canal by length and width (beam) won't fit because of maximum depth (draft) is 50' and would need to unload containers to fit through.
A trucker friend recently told me that soon his truck and most other trucks that can travel to every other state will not be able to make California emissions laws.

Spawning another business where CA emmissions compliant trucks get containers to the boarder, where they are transferred to CONUS(minus)CA emmissions compliant trucks for the remainder of their journey...

First picture is a Canal max ship except it has too much draft. Second picture each square represents a ship waiting to be offloaded just in Long Beach California

Not targeting any one member here, just an observation. I started really looking into this with the Suez incident but have been monitoring to some degree since the wuhan flu started.

if you spend some time researching and reading, the fragility of the mass-transport and/or supply chain thing is pretty interesting - and disturbing at how easily it can be disrupted. It's the same across many industries. Think back to the toilet-paper shortage. It only takes the slightest nudge and the whole system comes tumbling down (or goes into the shitter - sorry, can't resist.)

What would work is if we forced the lazy fucks in this country off the couch, get people back to work, and make our shit in out own fuckin country.

Problem with the Panama Canal is the chicoms are largely in control of it due to BRI. Also, L.A. Port is controlled (owned?) by the same. Explains some of the causes of the port problems that we are seeing.

Feb 25, 2015Activists have also voiced loud concerns over the canal's environmental impact, pointing out that it would require the dredging of Lake Nicaragua, the largest freshwater lake in Central America ...

The prime source of worry is Lake Nicaragua, Latin America's largest fresh water lake, and an important natural resource not just for Nicaragua but other Central American countries that may have to turn to it for drinking water in coming years as populations grow and the planet warms.

"No to the canal, death to the Chinese."

https://qz.com › 430090 › why-is-a-chinese-tycoon-building-a-50-billion-canal-in-nicaragua-that-no-one-wants
A Chinese billionaire is building one of the world's largest engineering projects, a canal in ... Central America's largest freshwater lake, ... Canal, and deep enough to allow Chinese ...

"A Chinese billionaire is building one of the world’s largest engineering projects, a canal in Nicaragua that is three times the size of world’s largest, the Panama Canal, and is estimated to cost at least $50 billion. Of the many Chinese infrastructure projects spanning the globe, the new canal seems to make the least commercial sense.

Few shipping industry observers forecast a need for a second canal in the region, and the canal is being built to accommodate extra-large bulk cargo ships that aren’t commonly used yet, and may never be popular. As initial construction for the project gets underway, violent protests are breaking out among Nicaraguans who object to losing their land or seeing Central America’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Nicaragua, be dredged."

In April, the U.S. Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in a press release deemed the canal project a “means to launder money” and put sanctions on three Nicaraguan entities. The sanctioned entities included two officials – Laureano Ortega Murillo, the son of President Ortega, and Vice President Rosario Murillo, Ortegas’s wife – and Banco Corporativo SA (BanCorp), a Nicaraguan bank.

In the press release OFAC says, “Despite the project’s loss of momentum, Ortega regime figures, including Laureano, continue to use the Nicaragua Grand Canal Company as a means to launder money and to acquire property along the planned canal route.”

The Nicaraguan government denies this is the case.

Personally I think that's one of the most uneducated comments I've seen in quite a while. I recall back in the early 2000's hundreds of thousands of people being kicked out of work. Entire industries were outsourced and it certainly wasn't voluntary on the part of any employee.

The biggest problem by far is that very specific special interests were given essentially immunity from the game by essentially political corruption. That corruption kicked off a massive outflow of companies even by those who did not even want to go. Now you have multi billionaires on one hand and highly qualified people that are essentially out of work on the other.

Is it a problem that people get rich? Nope. I hope to be there myself one day. But HOW they got/get rich is the question. Chelsea Clinton got paid $15 million dollars in a single year within the first year of graduating college. Tell me how that happens. If I get rich because I become a Senator or President and I give in to making special rules for special interests (and they reward me handsomely for such) if I am in on the game your damn right I will play. I want that 400 foot long yacht just like everyone else does.

But is it ok to get rich based off of corruption? If you think that Facebook and Google and Microsoft and others got to where they are by any other means I have a bridge to sell you. That has little to nothing to do with any lazy ass American worker. If you think Section 230 laws are the only thing that happened you are insane. They did that here, plus a ton of other things in regards to international trade that stacked the deck in favor of some and against others to promote corporations and special interests.

Does this bridge you speak of have the ability to handle large amounts of cargo?

I'm not sure what BRI is but the Chinese are controlling the Canal by owning all the franchises on each end, think tugs, grocery and other supply services, dockage and control of all supply.

shame bidin can't go down with the titanic he could take all that socialist crap with him and never come back . unless they are smaller than this one they can't go through Panama Canal it's the largest so far .

Image result for largest ships that can pass through panama canal
The enormous container ship called the “Neopanamax TRITON,” owned by the Greek shipping company Costamare, is now the largest vessel to transit the Panama Canal since its expansion in 2016. The container ship is 51.2 meters (168 feet) wide, and 369 meters (1,211 feet)

BRI=Belt Road Initiative. Their way of taking over the world:

Gordon Chang has spoken of this and how we are in the strangle hold.

Wait a minute. I thought California was against having junk floating off their coast?

Does anyone remember this being a problem with a Trump administration? I don’t.

That and I don’t think a large portion of America is lazy. For example, I worked 21 hrs straight yesterday and will likely be nearing that today.

OP, great question

Panama Chocks
These are specific chocks on ships that may transit the Panama canal for running your hawser and lines through when transiting the canal.
All US Navy ships are built with Panama chocks, if a ship was never intended to transit the canal, it may not have Panama chocks.

You sir, are the exception.

I did 32 straight and my wife did 34 last week on the same day.

A couple months ago, during the "refrigerator famine of 2021".......

We had a tenant whose fridge went out and had to be replaced in less than "6 - 8 weeks no guarantees though.....", because they had a baby.

Because the apartment was a historic building the size of the unit mattered so we couldn't 'upgrade' to a 25cf or larger.

I called Best Buy and asked the young lady at the store about the "unit in stock on the floor", she said yes, we can get that delivered tomorrow.

Then I said, "can you walk back there and measure it for me to be sure it'll fit in the hole"........ [insert "that's what he/she/they/zhe said joke"]....

...... and explained the circumstances.

She told me to hold for a minute.........

......then the next thing I knew I was talking to a guy at the call center in Mexico City....

Nice guy, we had a great laugh discussing the fucking useless lazy fat cow in the store in Tucson and agreed it would be difficult for him to get a tape measure on it from........

.......Mexico City
