Neck sizing bushings: supposed to “float”?

My Whidden FL die with the neck bushings. I have a Redding .228 bushing in there, numbers down, and notice that there is some slop in it. The bushing is able to move around in there side to side. Am I supposed to run the decapping stem retainer (or whatever that top piece that screws down...

    6.5cm load development: Take 2.

Yup 4350. Thought I said that up top but I didn’t.

    6.5cm load development: Take 2.

So a couple guys on my last load development thread suggested that my craptastic shooting played a big part in the results. And I agreed! So I tried again. 5 round groups, skipped the round robin business and just shot the groups. I think the results are a bit more consistent this time...

    New from Louisiana

Let me finish load development and get a scope set up and I just may take you up on that.

    New from Louisiana

Im in Laplace. About 30 minutes outside New Orleans. The 940 yard range down near Grand isle just reopened after a year closure and an ownership change. So I’m a happy fat man. Never thought I’d have almost 1k yards an hour and a half away!

Need opinions on first OCW test results

Yes it’s a 24” bergara BMP Creedmoor. Ok.. so I think I’m going to try going a bit higher as well as poking around with the 41.3-41.6 range. Next time I may load 5 rounds per charge weight, drop the round robin business and just shoot groups over the chrono.

Need opinions on first OCW test results

Very helpful replies. I am more than likely a (negative) part of the equation. I’ve been a shooter my whole life but this is really my first step into getting serious about precision rifle. I’m keeping pride and ego out of it as I truely want to become a good rifle shooter and part of that...

Need opinions on first OCW test results

Ok guys. Help me out here. Made it to the range today with the BMP, trying this OCW business. Here are the results. I think I see what’s going on, but I’d like to get some experienced guys looking at it. Gimme your thoughts. Once fired Hornady cases, resized In Whidden bushing FL die with a...

Another beginner question. Once fired from different rifle?

Very helpful bit of insight there. From a not-yet-ancient reloader, thanks!

    Bergara barrel change

From what I’ve gathered hanging around the Bergara Shooters FB Page, it’s not a drop in thing. They have a coned bolt nose which I’m almost positive eliminates savage or remage drop in barrels. Also, bergara is no longer making them with the Barrel nut. Per Nate Treadaway (their CEO), they...

Another beginner question. Once fired from different rifle?

Thanks guys. I ended up just throwing it all together. Measurements to shoulder, as well as neck diameter and he’s diameter between the two were so close that I could t tell if there was actually a longer one. Set up to bump back .002 and everything chambers smoothly.

Another beginner question. Once fired from different rifle?

Absolutely! The stuff in question is all Hornady. If I decide to use Lapua in the future I’ll be going back to square 1 with load development.

Another beginner question. Once fired from different rifle?

Thanks guys. The die I’m using is an FL die with neck bushings. If I understand correctly, by setting up the die to push the shoulder back .002 from fired, I will be sizing the length of the case and neck, just not setting back the shoulder more than necessary? If I’m understanding that...

Another beginner question. Once fired from different rifle?

Just meaning setting up the sizer to bump the shoulder back .002 from fired bergara case. In other words if my die will push the BMP brass to the specs I want, will running the other rifles cases through the same die settings produce the same results? Also I just measured a sample of 5 from...

Another beginner question. Once fired from different rifle?

So after posting my other thread about using my Hornady brass or holding out for Lapua, I decided to use what I have. Now. I have 60 ish cases fired through the rifle I’m going to be loading for (bergara BMP) and another bunch fired from my Ruger American Predator. Using a Whidden FL die...

Use my Hornady and federal or wait for Lapua?

Thanks for the info guys. I’ll be using the stuff I have on hand as, though I’ve done a metric crap ton of straight wall high volume stuff, this is my first crack at trying to do good bottleneck rounds so I’ll almost certainly mangle a few cases.

Use my Hornady and federal or wait for Lapua?

6.5 Creedmoor. I have close to 300 Hornady and Federal once fired from factory ammo. I’m finally getting my Dies and such together. Money for components and such isn’t endless, so I’m trying to decide if I should even bother with burning up bullets and powder on load development on the lower...

Couple of questions from newbie (dies, press)

Well I ended up ordering Whidden micrometer seating die and bushing FL sizing die. Now I just need to get my loading room painted with a functioning light fixture and unpack my goodies.

I’ve looked into these briefly but I need to dig into it again. I don’t recall what the advantages are. Thanks guys

Couple of questions from newbie (dies, press)

I’ve been reloading straight wall cartridges for years, but with the new BMP in Creedmoor, it’s time to learn rifle. I’m totally new to this world. I’d like my beginning purchases to be the proper stuff so I’m not rebuying equipment in a few months after figuring out flaws or options I should...
