    Higher quality trimmers worth it?

Interesting... I have the K&M case holder (basically a handle around an ER collet) and have been considering using it with the Giraud as well.

    Higher quality trimmers worth it?

Because variations in headspace from case to case don't affect your trim length. Individually, from one case to the next, of a given batch for a given gun, that shouldn't vary enough to matter. If it does, you have some other issues to track down and solve in your sizing process. But if you...

Hornady is making knockoff/clone bullets (Aeromatch)

Didn't Nosler already do this with their 'Custom Competition' line, that were blatant copies of the Sierra Match Kings?

    Higher quality trimmers worth it?

I hate to say it... but Hornady just dropped a Henderson clone / rip-off for their 2025 new product announcements. No idea what it's going to cost, or how it will actually compare to the original.

    Down the rabbit hole

Stick with group size, for those purposes. I mean, if the SD gets really bad, try to find and fix the problem... but for what you're looking for, stick with group size. The SD would have to be truly horrible to be a dominant factor at that distance.

How long should a FL resizing die last?

I'd be *shocked* if your die was anywhere near worn out. Then again, it seems like the cool kids these days are running their dirty brass through their reloading dies - if you're doing that, I might reconsider my stance on the matter. I haven't done this (yet), but if you have a micrometer...

Micron precision die in a Forster coaxial

I use the Micron sizer in regular Forster / Whidden die rings in my Co-Ax. I've seen they warn that they aren't compatible with Zero presses; it threaded into mine just fine, and worked well enough with the Zero rings. Ironically, I picked up a tiny ding on the edge of a thread and my newer...

Again, the only person I know that has both is Keith Glasscock; might try hitting him up.

Does anyone still use case gauges?

The issue I had with a batch of LC 5.56 brass wasn't the headspace, but the rims. I'd checked the headspace, using a regular comparator, adjusted the sizing die accordingly, but every once in a while, had one that wouldn't chamber. Measured everything I could think of at the time... nothing...

Does anyone still use case gauges?

Yeah... that LC brass was definitely a matter of "you get what you pay for". Yes, it was cheap - and I definitely paid for the difference in time/effort/tools to make it 'right'. I've got some LC M118LR brass that I started using, but decided it wasn't worth the effort of having to double...

    Precision Seating Die Options

I'd qualify that with "for some definition of 'competitive' shooter"... for BR, and a lot of the F-class crowd, sure. ELR too. Personally, I don't think anyone shooting any 'other' type of competition where the emphasis is more on shooter / positional skills is going to benefit very much from...

    Precision Seating Die Options

Supposedly, Keith Glasscock (aka "Winning in the Wind on YT/Patreon) has a video in the queue comparing exactly that. I think he teased something to the effect of the Micron seater giving very slightly better runout numbers. Don't quote me on the numbers, but it sounded fairly tiny - might have...

    Precision Seating Die Options

If you are shooting any kind of 'match' chamber, the clearance around the bullet in the freebore section of the chamber is way tighter than the runout that you are experiencing. As an example... I shoot a lot of .308 Win. Bullet diameter is right around 0.3080, maybe 0.3081. It's *very*...

Does anyone still use case gauges?

I've had my Wilson case gauges for years, but didn't use them much outside of when I was shooting NRA Service Rifle, with LC brass. Learned the hard way to gauge *every* round used in a match - at least with that stuff. Especially with a gas gun. More recently, I broke down and got a Wilson...

    SAC And 419 Dies

Neil Jones was making custom F/L sizing dies with shoulder bushings since before SAC existed as a company. For less $$$. Only downside is that by now he has to be getting old AF, and getting replacement / additional bushings may be a problem.

anybody else do this? (case lube and primer pocket cleaning novel ideas)

From the die? 3" patch, spray some Mpro7 gun cleaner on it, stick it over a 223 chamber brush. Run it in, twist, remove. Repeat with a clean dry patch. Super easy.

    Weird question regarding FL sizing

Yeah... considering that people have reloaded cases many more than just 2x for a lot of years long before annealing was even remotely common - and in the overall scheme of things, most reloaders still do - I would attribute zero credit to that particular anecdote.
