    6.5 creedmor?

I’d go Bergara over Ruger Hawkeye in a heartbeat. They shoot well, and take/fit in R700 accessories so can grow better as your needs/wants do.

Advanced Marksmanship Please school me on QUICK wind reading (match skillz)

I hear ya. My actual point is that elevation is science, and wind is voodoo. Different people process differently inside their heads. Engineers will want data, calculations, and numbers whereas folks like me that can’t remember what they had for lunch yesterday want tried and true methods...

Advanced Marksmanship Please school me on QUICK wind reading (match skillz)

Higher third of useful PRS type scopes with good glass will usually catch mirage. When practicing, as you transition to a far target and have to use your parallax adjustment-try out focusing on a bush or rock a short distance inside the actual target instead of making the target itself “crisp”...

Advanced Marksmanship Please school me on QUICK wind reading (match skillz)

Yup. If the winds switchy enough to be concerning I’d rather take the time (it’s only seconds really) to get hits. If there’s 90 seconds and 10 targets catching mirage is actually faster than trying to fk around with looking for midrange and target distance indicators and processing math...

    Rifle Scopes Nikon blk fx1000

Just got my 6-24 yesterday. No phantom clicks, etc. I’ve ran USO the past ten years, but picked this up for a lighter/more cost effective hunter. Really impressed just playing with it. Going to range in morning.

Advanced Marksmanship Please school me on QUICK wind reading (match skillz)

My favorite trick is to adjust parallax just short of the actual target and “feel” via mirage what the wind is going to do to the bullet. Has consistently given me faster, more intuitive judgement on wind holds on the clock than trying to gauge any wind indicators.

    Rifle Scopes USO Optical Quality?

George drew it on a cocktail napkin while talking to JBW3 and things changed for all of us. I personally prefer the Mil-MPR, and kids- us old folks have been smoking holdover stages long before Christmas tree reticles were widely available.

Thank you for taking the time to throw that together Ilya! That woulda sucked to try to type ;-)

Sidearms & Scatterguns After 30 Years of Waiting - 4” Colt Python

My father pre-inherited me an 8” nickel Python a couple years ago. Back in the eighties he got a hard on for pythons and bought one in every barrel length available (from our local grocery store that sold sporting goods as well). I love it but with Colt shutting down the custom shop, it will see...

Rifle Scopes Tired of 1-6, or 1-8xtiny objective.

There’s a reason I’ll never get rid of my dual focal plane 1.5-6 that US Optics made me years ago. SFP illuminated: FFP non illuminated:

PRS Talk How much gear should be allowed?

I like competition as much as the next guy, but I have to remind myself why I shoot any shooting sports I do- That is to better my skills, period.

PRS Talk How much gear should be allowed?

From doing stage design in the PreRS days, I can tell you this: If you can’t eliminate gaming by either your stage brief or stage design (or both), you aren’t doing your job. I hate the gear chase personally, but the inconsistency of application of stage and/or range rules, coupled with whiney...

    Why use Standard Deviation?

Correct, I was referring to chrono data. I don’t calc such things on target, pretty easy to see if I like what I see without mental gymnastics. I gave up obsessing on minutia that makes changes inside inside my circle of shooter error. I actually got the lowest SD I’ve had in years last...

Hunting & Fishing 6.5 vs 7-08 for hunting and general purpose

My hunter is currently a 65CM, 22” sporter. Shoots great, but I love the 7-08 and almost ordered a bull sporter in 7-08 for it but didn’t get drawn for elk :-( It’s a Salvage, so I’ll probably get a 22” bull sporter in 7-08 and 65CM to keep me covered for anything in AZ. Then I can obsess on...

Hunting & Fishing savage 110 predator too heavy for hunting? and other rambling

I’m running an Axis Hardwood (Boyd’s) 65CM sporter barrel I traded into for hunting. Damned if that thing doesn’t shoot! It puts old 140 Amaxes out at 2790 and 1/2moa. Timney trigger at 1.75# and an old 4.5-14 Buckmasters scope. 9#, but it’ll be going up to 9.5# as I have an FX1000 on the way...

Hunting & Fishing Backpack for hunting/packing meat

I’m cheap. The alps commander frame pack is what I use. Can pack in with Commander pack, pull the big pack at camp and run smaller pack with recovery/processing gear, water, optics and tripod on frame in field.
