How often do you clean while at the range?

when i trip and pack the 4 inches with mud... other than that never. most people (myself included) will see more accuracy deterioration from fatigue, nerves, paralax, barrel temp, etc. just my 2cents the actual condition of the bore from the 2nd shot on has essentially no effect on whether i hit...

how do you track the number of firings on your brass?

I have shallow pockets and have to acquire brass a little at a time. I am trying to settle on a good way to track brass throughout its life so i dont get brass on its 4th firing mixed up with once fired stuff when i am picking it up after shooting. today i took all my brass that is on its first...

What is considered average weight for an AR-10?

It sounds like mine is pretty good as it sits! Appreciate the feedback! It's easy to get sucked into the marketing and think I need carbon fiber everything when I really just need to get off the couch and go shoot.

What is considered average weight for an AR-10?

I have an AR-10 that is nothing fancy has a vortex 1-6 optic and a 19" fluted barrel. Unloaded, it weighs in right at 10lbs? Should I look into trying to lighten it up or am I essentially into the realm of diminishing returns with this. It's not unwieldy by any means but it is noticeable...

    Range Report Public Range chaos

Oh I love going out with buddies. Just not a fan of random people (particularly unfriendly ones or tweakers) who try to just roll up and linger while I'm shooting. It weirds me out. If they hop out and say hi and actually have manners I dont mind. Can't have too many friends.

This sounds like a good idea— the outrunning bullets part that is!

Best way to handle this is to just remove anything classified (or even interesting) ahead of time and then set up a job fair. They will never come back.

    Range Report Public Range chaos

I have decent luck just using the public land in the hills around here (PNW/ oregon). I dont set up at a spot where there already people, i just drive on and find somewhere else. Others usually do the same thing when I am shooting (stop and reverse as soon as they see the spot is taken) once in...

    Magnum primers for .308win

I am however curious if fed210s are inherently risky with slam fires... I should have been more clear that the two topics are not directly connected

    Magnum primers for .308win

I am not asking if magnums will be less likely to slam fire. I am curious how they affect the pressure curve. Do they tend to shift the curve or just all around increase pressure

    Magnum primers for .308win

So I have a few questions about primers first off I am running an AR-10 and using Fed-210 primers am I asking for a slam fire? Secondly if I switch primers what would the effect of magnum primers be.. (190gr bullet and imr4320 powder) Would magnum primers shift my pressure curve slightly? Is...

Range Report Drop chart never seems correct

Round down the bc a bit and see if it helps.. anytime someone posts High BCs or sub 1/2minute groups it should always be taken with a grain of salt

190gr ABLR over IMR 4320, can it be done?

After two more trips out and a bunch more tinkering I've figured out that for most the brass I have 41gr is what I would consider my max load and I finally got it to shoot decent at 39gr (groups still suck due to me being a lousy shot) but they are at least going where the gun happens to be...

    308 Beyond 1K YARDS

I'm going to try it with my AR-10 with a 19" barrel from deadshotbarrels.com. I have shot out to 1200 before but with mixed results and crappy fundamentals. I'm back at 50yds now trying to learn to not suck. When I master 50 I will move to 100 and stay there until I can "actually" shoot "moa all...

    How often do you clean?

I just dribble some hoppes on a boresnake (the bristly part) pull it through a few times then put few drops of oil about 2/3rds of the way down the snake and pull it through a few more times... the theory is that the cleaner makes me feel better and the oil placement will allow the boresnake to...

190gr ABLR over IMR 4320, can it be done?

Went out and test fired it. Didn't blow up in my face but flattened the primers out pretty good and got an ejector swipe. Plus I was off the node and it didn't group. Going to try backing the next bunch down to 41gr and 42gr and see if either one groups any better. If that doesn't work I will...

190gr ABLR over IMR 4320, can it be done?

Hey just thought I would probe those here who may have experience with shooting heavies in .308 on the load I have patched together for a 19" AR-10 running rifle gas. Fiocci Brass 190gr Nosler ABLR Fed 210 primer 43.0gr IMR 4320 2.810" OACL I couldn't find much info on 4320, especially with...

Gas block with an off setting?

Are there any companies making adjustable gas blocks with an on/off toggle of some sort. It would be nice to be able to shut off the gas without losing my standard setting and messing with set screws... maybe something with the standard setup plus an extra hole drilled straight down through the...

Fieldcraft Camo options other than spray paint or dip

I have thought about this too. I like the idea of blending in when I am hunting but dont want a bunch of rubbed off spray paint and hokey looking stuff at the range. Would just wrapping it in fabric work? Then you could just paint the fabric, or attach foliage, or get the fabric good and dirty...
