My next build will likely be a 338 LM (assuming with twins I can afford one) or a 6.5 RSAUM or 7 RSAUM. Leaning towards a 7 RSAUM. I would LOVE a 338 LM and I do reload so I could afford to feed it. My 223 is built off a Savage WMS action and could be converted back for use on a 7 RSAUM build...
I went with Corvette Yellow (can't be tactical with twin one year olds so might as well scream "look at me"). Should be getting mine back tomorrow or Monday (hoping tomorrow). I'm also getting a JP Bennie Cooley Muzzle Brake installed on mine for extended range sessions. Being installed at...
The all black look looks good. I may have to do that when I buy my second XLR. I get my first XLR back from my smith on Friday (crossing fingers and toes).
What are you going to rebarrel to?
I live in TX (north) and heat during the summer is the bane of my existence.
I looked at RL17 and everything I saw said stay away if you live in TX due to the heat sensitivity. With that being said, NV isn't that much cooler (depending on where in NV, probably as bad if not worse than TX)...
Midway had some 53gr V-Max's on blemish. Picked up 500 to give it a try. Currently use the 50gr Z-Max/V-Max and it works pretty well for me. The extra 50 points in BC will add some to its ability to buck the wind a little longer.
That is excellent news. I am also planning to shoot the 80gr AMAX's out of this rifle at distance. The V-Max/V-Max are just cheaper for the short distances.
The 50gr pills have shot 1/4 to 1/2 MOA consistently out of my 1/9 so definitely want to continue to use them.
i don't want to have to deal with that. As long as the 50's will shoot, then no issue. If there is an issue, I will offload. It'll be end of summer before the barrel is ready.
The barrel is already on order. This rifle is a trainer for my 260. It costs 50% what it costs to shoot the 260 and over the next 6 months will mimic the 260 build wise (XLR chassis and a Vortex 6-24 PST MIL/MIL FFP). Plus this config could be used to do F-T/R if I wanted to.
@ insight3b: thank you
fiveshotdot: I want the faster twist to shoot the heavies. The 223 is my trainer. I also have 12# of H322 (got 2x 8# jugs for $150 last year) and it works really well with the lightweight 223 bullets.
I have a new barrel on order, but it is 14 weeks or more out. My current barrel is a factory Savage 24" 1-9 twist varmint profile. This barrel loves the 50gr Z-Max over H322 lit by a Fed 205M.
The new barrel will be a CBI 30" 1-7 twist bull profile. I will probably shoot the Hornady 80gr...
I got lucky and got mine after 6 weeks. It is a my smith's for a muzzle brake install and cerakoting of the stock. Two more weeks of waiting. Started this build the 3rd week of January. I am usually an immediate gratification kinda guy and the wait has been a killer.
He's looked at the Choate and that is a decent budget alternative. I've built a 308 in a LA and used a Choate stock and it was rock solid. Didn't require bedding (saving a few more pennies) and was very easy to install.
Give Jim Briggs from Northland Shooters Supply for a CBI barrel...
I got to put 5 rounds down the tube before sending my rifle to my local smith a week ago for a muzzle brake install and cerakote of the stock. Color choice is a secret until I can post pics in two weeks :)
I've waited over 3 months now for this build to be complete and I'm lucky I got to put...
I shot the Nosler version of the V-Max using a similar charge and it was definitely an accurate round. When I do my part, I could get 1/2 MOA out of my DPMS 24" 1-8 bull. I could occassionally get 1/4 MOA, but the stars had to align just right.
Definitely suggest building. You can pick up a new action for a 3 to $500 depending on which action you choose. There are cheaper alternatives if you can find a cheap rifle as a donor for the action which is the route I went.
Any reason for 300 WM versus other calibers that can definitely...
I shoot the 50gr Z-Max (V-Max equivalent) using Fed 205M and H322 (23.8gr out of a 24" 1/9 twist Savage). I get sub 1/2 MOA. I could probably get 1/4 MOA if I tweaked the load, but 1/2 MOA is good enough for my needs.
