Primers - How much of a difference do they make?

You might not see a difference between regular and match primers in the 308 cartridge but I definately see a difference in my 221 Fireball. What you don't want is to have the primer dislodge the bullet before the powder ignites. There is a fine balance between having enough brisance to...

    hornady 105 gr match bullets

I've not had good success with Hornady "match" bullets. Sierra or Barnes is the way to go.

Do you know someone in need??

I've been helping a young farm kid get started reloading. He is covered with all the accessories but is in need of a press. If you care to donate one shoot me a PM.

    K&M Shooing customer service.

Never had to use their customer service but I like the neck turn tools I have. Good to hear they are a worthwhile outfit that values customers.

Tell me about shot shell reloading.

I'm just starting to load shotshell. My interest is 410 ga reloading for the farm guns and I clearly see a path to saving money over factory ammo purchased at a retail outlet. I picked up a shot maker and I seem to get a lot of free lead. I also picked up a roll crimper with wads and cards...

here is a newbi neck turning question ...

Turn your case after it's resized. You determine the thickness by how you set your cutter. Neck thickness can be measured with a ball micrometer. Interesting tool but I won't be tossing my K&M stuff in favor of it. I chuck my cases in a drill press with the Lee 3-Jaw chuck then outside turn...

Getting set up for reloading, kit or piece by piece?

My advice - I would steer you away from 2 things. 1) Anything Hornady with the exception of some of their bullets. 2) Do not buy a kit. It may take you a bit longer to piece together your set up but you will be way ahead in the long run.

Inline Fabrications Ultramount Press Riser Review

I picked up one of their turret holders for the Lee Classic Turret. Nice piece of work. Based on the quality of the part I purchased I have no problem recommending them to anyone.

    K&M Neck Turner Help

K&M makes two mandrels for their turners. One is smooth steel that does not cut, it just centers/guides the cutter using the case neck. The other is a carbide cutter that inside reams at the same time the cutter outside turns the necks. Which are you using? The expandiron is needed to get...

    need some sizing help

Do they chamber in your gun if you neck size only? If yes, just neck size them and load them up. Might want to do a small batch and compare results to FL sized loads. From your description it sounds like your gun may have a generous chamber. If that is the case FL resizing will result in...

    Choice of Reloading Press

What model Lee press do you have? If you have the Lee Classic Single Stage you have a strong, tight-tolerance press that does not need to be replaced. The Lee CCSS is a great product. Fuzzball's comments were spot on. Making high qualit ammo is more a function of paying attention to detail...

    Traveling and reloading?

Here's another pic during the build process. There is a rubber pad on the bottom that can't be seen. It keeps it from skidding around on hard surfaces. I have since added (and removed) side plates (shelves) but found them to be too unstable in the open air. A good reloading tray goes a long...

    Traveling and reloading?

I built this as a portable setup, works great. I used Dillon Strong Mounts as the vertical uprights and made the top and bottom plates from 5/16 steel. I carry all the other dodads for case prep, priming, dies etc. in a 24" long tool box. I have a hole drilled in the bottom plate and drilled...

    In need of recommendations.......

Get one each of the Lee Classic Cast single stage and the Lee Classic 4-station Turret and you will have all your needs covered. Both can be had for a lot less money than a Hornady or Dillon progressive system and it gives you a lot more versatility on the bench.

    Which press?

Not so, I had the Hornady system for a couple of years and found I could load more accurate ammo without all the dodads. Don't miss it one bit. Also had a Forster Co-Ax, nice press but the ergonomics were not for me. Kept pinching my fingers trying to seat bullets in magnum cartridges and the...

    Which press?

I agree the quick-change bushings are a gimmick. They are a solution for a non-existent problem. It's not that much effort to screw a die into the press and there is no gain in quality of the ammo, just something else to spend money on.

    Which press?

Get one each of the Lee Classic presses, single stage and turret. That will cover all your needs ... forever. Great presses and great value. You will really like the primers dropping through the center of the ram instead of ending up on the floor. They're he!! bent for stout too.

    Concentricity Gauge how important?

Yes, you will benefit by having a concentricity gauge to identify steps in your ammo build process that introduce runout. You will soon discover the majority of runout is attributed to non-uniform neck thickness. And, the next addition to your bench will be a neck turn tool.

    Concentricity Gauge how important?

I've not been impressed with Hornady reloading equipment. To the OP, what kind of gun do you have?
