    Then your rifle is fine. Go shoot it. To get an exact measurement you need to remove the ejector AND extractor. I will sometimes fudge it if I am trying to save time, but if I have any question I go back and remove the extractor and ejector and check it again.

    This. If the barrel was chambered to accept .308 and 7.62NATO then it may fail (close) the .308 no-go. In our MATEN build series I went into detail on checking the headspace.

    If you are "loading" it to the point the legs are rolling out, you have gone too far. Use less pressure. You are not trying to push the rifle down range.

    Ready to order AI AE MKIII 308

    Don't mess with it. Use the AI base that comes on the rifle. Bolt on your HDMR and shoot. The HDMR should have enough elevation to get you to 1K on a flat base. If for some reason you find it doesn't then you can go looking for a solution. My AE MkII still has the flat base it shipped with.
