Gunsmithing Need some quick lathe advice

Re: Need some quick lathe advice To measure wear take a piece of drill rod maybe 18" and chuck in 3 jaw, mount dial test indicator in tool post and run carriage back and forth from head stock to tail stock. Machine does not have to be running. With a good straight piece of drill rod you do...

    Gunsmithing Repair gouges before Cerakote

Re: Repair gouges before Cerakote sorry for no posting pics and tools at disposal. I have an atlas 12, steady rest, tool post grinder, ect. Would epoxied area blend well under cerakote, after sanding, stoning and blasting? That seems to be the only option around the serial numbers.

    Gunsmithing Hardening a Scratchbuilt Riflestock.

Re: Hardening a Scratchbuilt Riflestock. Table top epoxy is very hard and several coats could help. HomeDepot or Lowes has it. Repainting with c-series cerakote is only slightly more difficult than spray cans. They sell metallic colors. Using ordinary paint on wood must have primer, then...

    Gunsmithing Mixing Cerakote H-series Colors?

Re: Mixing Cerakote H-series Colors? Hired Gun, I was out of line. I apologize. Last week I attempted a desert camo on a rem 710 stock. I used Flat Dark Earth and Federal Brown. While it looks good, the Fed Brown seems too red in tone next to FDE. I thought a "monotone" desert cam would...

Re: Mixing Cerakote H-series Colors? Ernie, Thanks for taking the time to get out the correct information. A lot of what I have learned over the past year came from your posts. Your Tomahawk CQTC looks so nice I had to by that <span style="font-style...

    Gunsmithing Lazer etchings and Cerakote

Factory Markings, I say make them deep or leave them out. I just coated a LCP and the markings on the slide can barely be seen. To me, that's worse than not at all.
