Hunting & Fishing I need the perfect predator round

I have a lot of rifles, and without a doubt my favorite Predator Round is the 204 Ruger. I like the 40 gr pills for coyotes and they do buck the wind better. Have two 204 rifles, one in the Ruger #1, which is super nice and accurate. I also have a RAP in 204. I put a brake on the RAP, the...

Hunting & Fishing Was just enlightened...

I have 29 acres in the Wyoming part of the Black Hills. No covenents, no zoneing. There just about isn't anything I cant do on my property. Surrounded by hills so shooting if perfectly safe. Its nothing to look out the window and see a dozzen or more deer, (and turkeys) in my wife's flowers...

    Hunting & Fishing Grizz huntin,

Wyoming has a total of 24 tags, If I remember right 12 for residents and 12 for non-residents, but like mentioned only 2 hunters in the field at once. Getting a tag will be like winning a lottery. Expensive, even for residents. I did some figuring and discovered I can hunt grizzlies in...

    Building a "Enfield P14 WW1 sniper" in 338 Lapua?

Its not crazy if you want it. Remember slaves get what they need, freemen get what they want. In the mid 70s a guy gave me a M1917 action. While I was trying to figure out what to do with it, I read an article by Carmichael where he made a 416 Rigby on a M1917 action. I got to thinking, I...

Need suggestion from an M1 Garand Pro on setting a scope...

I'm with Ledzep regarding the M1: I ran sniper schools for the NG using the M1C/Ds and M-84 scopes. The M-84 works good if one was to learn to use it properly. Many dont put in the effert. This was the Alaska National Guard and I had a majority of Alaska Native Guardsman who simple by passed...

Need schooling on the Springfield 1903

From the prices in my neck of the woods, A M1903 in good shape, and later then 800,000 serial numbers, for $1300 would cause me to walk out of the store with a 1903 and $1300 poorer. I have a A3, and its one of the best shooting rifles I have, I need a M1903, but I'm a shooter so it would...

Hunting & Fishing whitetail deer bullet choice

547 yards. Hornady 100 BTSP, Ran about 30 yards before dieing. Not a white tail but muley. 6.5 CM w/143 ELD-X work great but I personally think they are over kill on deer/antelope. I'm gonna go back to my 257 Roberts (Hornady 117 BTSP) for such critters.

    Not Vintage sniper But

In 1981 my house was broken into, one of the 3 guns not recovered when we caught the guy was a Model 1917 Smith 45 ACP. Every since I"ve been looking for a good replacement. Finely at the gun show today I found it. Excellent shape. Vintage, just not a rifle.

Finally picked up a Mosin Nagant...

As a CSM MI I figured I'd be instructing clinics with people using Mosin's so I should figure out how to shoot them. Cabelas had a father's day sale selling them for $99. I went through a bunch with a bore light tell I found one I liked. I refused to buy the cheap surplus ammo, and Nosler had...

Finally picked up a Mosin Nagant...

I think Tony is right. I havent shot any surplus crap in mine (or any of my rifles. I reload using Winchester brass and it shoots great. It's not a M1903 but for what it is, it's good.

Hunting & Fishing Will try muzzleloader for first time, any tips...

Take some one with you when hunting. First deer I shot with an inline was in a group of about 8 others. After I shot, and the smoked cleared the deer were still standing around like nothing happen. I didnt see the one I shot fall (through the smoke) nor did I see any that ran off. I...

    1874 Sharps 45-90 reloading questions.

You need to use soft lead bullets and dont push them too fast. Lyman's 535 gr bullet # 457132 is about the best you can find for long range. I think youre best bet would be to pick up Lyman's BLACK POWDER HANDBOOK & LOADING MANUAL.

    USMC m1911a1

Not a Marine, Army here. I carried an M-60 for a good deal of my time in Vietnam and a 1911A1, thats exactly how I carried or held, my pistol when at night.

Hunting & Fishing Will try muzzleloader for first time, any tips...

During the last big drought, when primers and powder were scarce, I bought a TC inline. I had a ton of Shotshell Primers left over from my trap and skeet shooting days. I found out those inlines were something else. Accurate, like shooting center fire rifles. I tried the storeboght sabets...

Fieldcraft productive way to practice ranging with scope??

Not far from the house about 2 miles is an abonded gravel pit on BLM land where I like to shoot. You can get well past 2000 yards safely. I set out a target, then drive all over the area on a 4 wheeler practicing ranging from different locations. I have the target marked on my GPS so I check...
