Never seen this before, what am I dealing with here?

I wish I had known that before going the WLRP route. Fortunately, I scored a few bricks of CCI #34 recently, figured military brass w/ military primer should make a good combo. Time will tell. WRT the bolt face divots, is that purely a cosmetic issues or will it cause...

Never seen this before, what am I dealing with here?

I did some Googling and found similar articles, which is why I contacted Winchester support to have them take a look. Except they reported " the primer didn't show any manufacturing issues", and issued me a refund at MSRP. I wonder how many primers they tested to reach that conclusion :-/

Never seen this before, what am I dealing with here?

SMK 175gr, once fired LC, WLR primer and VV N140 from 39.3gr to 41.4gr. The leaky primer (if that's what it is) came from the low end of the charge weights, one each at 39.7, 40.2 and 40.6. Ironically the higher charge weights, 41.0 and 41.4 didn't suffer from this effect, though with only 5...

Never seen this before, what am I dealing with here?

Looks like it's coming from between the primer and the pocket, as if the primer didn't completely seal the pocket and I'm getting a "leak".

Never seen this before, what am I dealing with here?

Most of the brass was once fired LC. Judging from how much work I needed to resize them, I'm guessing they were fired from an MG. The Lapua only had 1 prior firing, with 41.4gr of N140, the max according to VV reloading manual.

Never seen this before, what am I dealing with here?

That's what I originally thought, except those blown primers were on the low end of the charge weight, and I strictly stick to the book, starting with 39.3gr of N140 and never exceeded 41.4gr, which is the book max.

Never seen this before, what am I dealing with here?

So I was testing my 308 handloads in my Colt 901 when I noticed a round didn't sound normal. Low and behold, the ejected casing showed a small pin hole at the edge of the primer, and it pitted the bolt face as well. At first I thought this is a sign of high pressure, except it happened...

Did I just screw my rifle by shooting surplus cupronickel bullets through it?

UPDATE: I called up BoreTech and talked to one of techs. According to him, the cupronickel used in the German surplus has very light nickel content, and their Eliminator should be able to take care of it. I've got it on order and will try it out then report back.

Did I just screw my rifle by shooting surplus cupronickel bullets through it?

Seems I've stirred up a hornets nest ;) FWIW, I only suspect the German cupronickel rounds was the cause behind the rifle losing accuracy, since all I have were evidence from shooting the Fiocchi from two range sessions. It could be due to a bunch of other reasons, inadequate bore cleaning...

Did I just screw my rifle by shooting surplus cupronickel bullets through it?

What should I use to apply these products? A patch followed by nylon brush? A mop?

Did I just screw my rifle by shooting surplus cupronickel bullets through it?

Hi guys, Long story short, I have a 308win Colt LE901 with chrome lined barrel. When I first got the rifle, it was holding sub-MOA accuracy with factory 175gr Fiocchi match ammo. I bought a thousand rounds of AM2030 148gr surplus with cuprronickel FMJ for plinking and training, and shot a few...

RCBS X-die leaving scratch marks on the case neck, remedies?

I recently got a set of used X-die for my 308. Last night, when I set them up to resize some once fired LC brass, I got the results below. The top pair was resized by the RCBS, and the bottom pair by Forster FL die. As the picture shows, the die really scratched the neck portion of the brass...

The tale of two 308 reload batches

So I heard, wish I had bought pounds of them back then instead of the N140. Unfortunately these days they are like unobtainium...

The tale of two 308 reload batches

What's the primary difference between the LR vs standard LC brass? Have you noticed any accuracy differences between the two, while keeping other variables constant?

The tale of two 308 reload batches

Yes, it was once fired Winchester brass I paid someone else to process, since I lack the full set of tools to polish and trim the brass.

The tale of two 308 reload batches

Is this generic LC or the rarer LRP variety? I've heard of FC being softer, is the primary problem with that being primer pocket getting loose after a few reloads?
