Email from Q - ATF issues Cease & Desist for Honey Badger Pistol *UPDATE*

Ah, and therein lies the difference between "law" and "policy". The ATF cannot make law; however they can and often do make policy... which is what we're seeing here.

Cleaning barrel after using nickel plated bullets

Loud and clear, sir. FWIW, I only use (and/or recommend) use of bore abrasives on bore mops or those little felt pellets (from VFG). I have found that occasionally, the carbon and copper cleaners that I use will leave deposits untouched, but a brief scrub with KG2 makes the cleaners MUCH more...

Cleaning barrel after using nickel plated bullets

At the risk of being flamed, what about KG2/JB Bore Paste or similar?

    Adj. cheek piece question

While not a direct answer to your question, perhaps you can get by with a cheek piece that isn't notched or whatever if you go to a side-charging upper/carrier. Might that be another way to skin the cat?

Thanks for pushing me to Tikka

After playing with my first Tikka, I swore off (factory) R700s. After playing with my first Howa, I confirmed to myself that there is zero reason to consider going back to a factory R700. Without going too far down the rabbit hole, the R700 footprint is the industry standard, and I have no...

Best middle of the road caliber for North American game

Another consideration would be the 300 WM or 300 PRC. Nothing wrong with a 7mm RM, though... just know that you're going to give up some velocity (and make more noise if you have to shoot unsuppressed) with the 22 inch barrel.

Great deal on Remington 700 at Walmart, PSA:

If I didn't already have an R700 that I'm looking to unload, I'd be stalking my local Wal*Marts for these things...

Any argument to be made for picking up a rifle in 7.62x39?

Converting to detachable (duckbill) mags on the SKS is plenty easy, and I've never had a problem with them. That said, I certainly haven't tested them in anything remotely resembling battle (or even adverse) conditions.

Any argument to be made for picking up a rifle in 7.62x39?

Why make it a one-or-the-other choice? I *will* say that the Howa mini in x39 is noticeably lighter than a Marlin 336.

Write up on Brace Built Rifle, Modern Carbine. MC6

As it happens, Brace Built is located a couple doors down from a company for which I do occasional part time work. I haven't had a chance to meet them, but I am told that they're a good bunch of guys, and have already been in business for a couple years, so any concerns about them being...

    Howa action/chamber consistency

^^This^^ I basically soaked the breach threads/tenon in Liquid Wrench for about 24 hours, did the barrel vise/action wrench thing, and a couple half-ass (not even, really... more like quarter-ass) taps with a 3 pound shop hammer on the action wrench handle, and she popped loose. It really was...

    which JP silent buffer?

Hmmm. In that case, I'd guess "heavy", but reserve the right to be wrong. A call/email to JP may be your best bet.

    which JP silent buffer?

Looks like an H2, per the selection chart.

Any argument to be made for picking up a rifle in 7.62x39?

My favorite gun in x39 is a Howa mini. What a fun little plinker! It's light, it feeds smooth as can be, and it's cheap to feed. With 12x grain HP, it'll print pretty consistent 1.0-1.5 MOA 5-round groups at 100 yards, if I'm paying attention to recoil management. With a can, it is absurdly fun...

    Howa action/chamber consistency

Short version: I played musical barrels with a pair of Howa actions/barrels, and installed a .308 barrel that began life on action X onto action Y, and not only was the head space in spec, it was tighter than a nun's.... habit. Go gauge went in and chambered without a hitch, while the bolt...

Any argument to be made for picking up a rifle in 7.62x39?

Short answer: yes, you should pick up a rifle in x39 Slightly longer answer: consider an SKS; they're less expensive than AKs and just as reliable and inaccurate, so you get the AK experience on a budget. Seriously, though, x39 is a great round to screw around with, and has enough oomph to be...

Sidearms & Scatterguns REALLY good video talking about handgun terminal performance

That's kind of the corollary to the, if-the-(handgun) bullet-doesn't-touch-it-it-doesn't-get-damaged concept... humans/animals are electrically controlled, hydraulically operated machines, and without either causing massive damage to the electrical system (brain, brain stem) or a critical loss...

Sidearms & Scatterguns REALLY good video talking about handgun terminal performance

Here. It's kinda long and dry, but contains a lot of really good info regarding terminal performance of handgun ammo. I will say that the discussion focuses on self defense ammo, and therefore their comments pertain to human targets (and human target analogs like organic ballistic gel), but the...
