Give me your input on how to practice.

As Frank has said, "Paper doesn't lie." Set a Kraft Drill target at 100 yards. Spend some time figuring out how you can get the most stable positions from as many heights as you can, then shoot the KD target to validate your position behind the rifle is good. Once you can shoot groups you're...

Joe Biden's latest Joe Biden moment.

Why does he have a handheld mic when the podium has a primary AND a backup mic? WTH - did BOTH of them lose signal? Sorry, just stuff I notice. Yep. He's an idiot. Oh yeah, remember when the Dems went on and on for a while about wanting Trump to have his mental cognitive abilities tested? Why...

    Speed or Wind?

FWIW, I had been shooting 105's at 3010 with 33.66 grains of Varget. They shot very flat. Then I wanted to see trace, and give my eyes a teeny bit more time to spot and process impacts and misses. 105's at 3000+ is a little difficult. Now I'm playing with 115 DTAC at 2725 with 31.0 grains of...

    Recoil Management

That's been a technique I use on my tripod all the time now - make the front leg about 2-3" shorter than the rear two legs. As @Diver160651 put it in his now near-legendary "Tips & Tricks" post, doing this shifts the center of gravity forward of the center of the tripod , so recoil doesn't...

    6gt

I'm trying the heavy and slow approach this year. I went from 105's at 3010 (33.66g Varget) to 115 DTACs at 2725 (31.0g Varget) in 8X fired Hornady brass. JBM shows the DTACs at 2725 with the same wind drift as the 105's at 3010. Just a fun experiment.

What equipment to bring as a first time competitor?

Getting two hits from three shots beats zero hits from ten shots. Don't worry about the timer, you're not going to get all your shots off in your first match. Just accept that. You will be super tempted to try and blast away to get all ten shots off like you see the top guys in your squad...

First PRS match - next steps, advice

There is nothing wrong with a 700 action when you're just starting out. My rifle started it's life as a 700P. After I got the action trued by Spartan Precision Rifles, I haven't felt the need to upgrade my action. Everything else on the gun has been changed. Stick with what you have for now...

Opinions on pump pillows or fat bags?

I have a pump pillow and bring it to every match. I used it at San Luis Obispo on the roof but probably didn't need it. I would have been fine just one-bagging it. I find I use it less and less as time goes by, FWIW.

    PRS Talk Stability

A trick I discovered for high prone where my firing elbow can't quite reach the ground is to take my support hand, ball it up, and put it under my firing elbow. Instant stability for the rear of the rifle.

PRS Talk Mounting a phone to tripod

Don't forget to video yourself during practice as well. You'll pick up on a lot of wasted movements that way and can quickly work to correct them right then and there. Just my two cents.

PRS Talk Competition belt, battle belt?

I use a HSGI Operator belt with two mag pouches and a kydex Kestal holder. I asked around when I was looking and everyone I spoke to said that HSGI builds belts that last, so I bought one.

    6.5cm or 6GT for noob

IME the GT has less recoil than the CM, which makes spotting impacts and misses that much easier. The GT also uses about 20% less powder than the CM, so when you get to reloading it will cost 20% less for powder than the CM. YMMV

I have a Zero Obsession Lately

What are some of the techniques you use to zero ? I shoot five shots prone first thing in the day just to warm the gun up, then I'll shoot a five shot group and adjust my zero based on how the gun is shooting that day. If it's a match, I'll shoot about ten first to really warm the gun...

CA says no to charging electric cars

Think Newsom is done? Heck no, just wait until The Chosen One is propped up by his party in a few years and becomes President. Then he'll be free to spread his special kind of stupid everywhere. It's obvious he's The Chosen One because in this last election cycle, he didn't even have any...

Are no dial stages still a thing?

I'm leaning towards the mental aspect of being told the stage is a "no dial" stage, that the MD's are trying to get in the heads of the competitors, because folks who haven't practiced hold overs to become comfortable with holding over would be thinking about the holdover and have mental process...
