Prefit match barrels with test target?

Well, as this test target shows; the Sierra 144gr, or similar, is a great staring point for reloads instead of staring from scratch.

Prefit match barrels with test target?

Are there any makers of prefit matchbarrels in the US that test accuracy before shipping and include test target in the shipment? Should be no problem for barrels in 308 and 6.5CM. This practice is quite common in Europe. This is a test target that came with a Sauer SSG3000 6.5x55 match barrel...

It's been fun, but it's time for me to move on

Ryan: Thank you for all of your contributions here. I've really enjoyed them and learned a lot. I am also at a turning point in life after a visit to the hospital two days ago. I'll probably sell most of my guns, but I'll keep a couple of rifles and a couple of handguns that I have sworn not...

    Tariffs and ammo prices?

How will the new tariffs affect ammo prices? The two largest exporters of lead to the US are Canada (25% tariff) and China (10% tariff). I bet the market for brass is quite similar. I shoot Sierra and Nosler bullets in Europe so if there will be imposed tariffs between the US and EU I bet I...

    Federal does it again 😅

I think these new steel cases are best used in 7.62NATO to improve ballistics in existing military weapons. In the 80'ies we used the MG34 in 7.62NATO in the Norwegian NG. We tuned a couple of these for accuracy with matchbarrels and fitted modern scopes. Short full auto bursts shot 1.5moa over...

    Federal does it again 😅

I'd like 308win "steel" cases so I could load 185gr juggs@2800fps for use in a retuned MG3@1300rpm..😎 Many years ago we got 1500rpm out of a tuned MG42 in 8x57 with steel cased 186gr ammo.

Almost, the blade is made from a meteoroid.

    Saddam Hussein's Golden Guns

Nothing beats this. Tutankhamon's two knives. One made of gold and one with a iron/steel blade made 1500 years before man could make iron:

    Valmet m76 with Swarovski

If you want to use another optic the mount for these are still being made today. The ever pragmatic Finns used the mount for the Valmet/Tikka 412/512 shotgun/combination/double rifle. These qd-mounts are rock solid and handle recoil from a 9,3x74 double rifle set on a 412. Today the mount looks...

    Tikka actions

My guess is that Tikka, and Sako, use the old spec for 6.5x55 land and groove dimensions in the barrels. These dimensions are known for slow velocities. In the old days, here in Scandinavia, we used Shilen and Douglas barrels to speed up the old Swede.

    A mystery Mauser

@MK20 I will probably buy the rifle and scope if all stars align.. The seller has no knowledge of guns and are located a couple of hours by plane from me. As I live in Scandinavia I have to get a license from the police to buy the Mauser, and as my collection of guns is "full" I need to get rid...

    A mystery Mauser

I got more pictures from the seller. The rear base is missing. Scope seems to be Kahles. I've asked the seller if there are any part of the mounts that have the same number as the rifle. The barrel is in 308win with, I think, a Krag rear sight.

    A mystery Mauser

Yesterday this M98 small ring Erfurt mauser was posted for sale on a local "ebay" for $45. This action/rifle was obviously a massacred rifle that had previously had a scope mounted with turret mounts found on ww2 M98K snipers. Here's the rifle: I contacted the seller and asked about this. He...

To avoid any confusion. The barrel on the P4 is threaded in to the receiver like a conventional rifle.

    M40 build thread

There are known cases of barrels "coming loose" on regular SSG69 fitted with a can. I replied Frank Green on this issue only a few days ago in the vintage rifle picture thread:

    M40 build thread

What I really like about the M40 is that it can be used as a hunting rifle, a big bore silhouette rifle topped with a Weaver T10 capable of very good scores and, here in Scandinavia, a very good hunters class field target and moving target competition rifle. The M40 is within the rules for the...

    Vintage Sniper Rifle Picture Thread

The crudest solution to get an old barrel out of a SSG69 is to cut the barrel to 15", thread it for a robust can, heat the front of the receiver a little and shoot rapid fire. Then, usually , the barrel will loosen a little bit and can then be hammered out from the rear through the receiver with...

    75 Degree Bolts are landing

Just for reference. This is a Husqvarna 1900 sporter moving target and field target competition rifle from 1968. It has a 70 deg twin lug bolt and reduced length fireing pin strike compared to the 90deg regular production 1900 hunting rifles. Bolt throw is adapted to cartridge length, and with...

    Straight-pull bolt action

If a straight pull rifle action is going to be faster than a bolt action, for rapid fire shooting, the nr. one criteria is that the hand do not need a forward motion to reach the bolt handle after the first shot is fired. Same goes for closing the action. After the action is closed the hand...
