LVPO all the way for a top tier AR (or any AR for that regards). with minimal practice your splits will be just as fast and you'll gain a ton of flexibility for target ID/mid range. what's your budget?
ammo - I'd start with FGMM and Hornady match.
scope - lots of great choices - the recommendations will be easier if we knew what magnification range you were looking for.
regardless, under 2k there are plenty of excellent scopes from Leupold, Nightforce, Quigley Ford, Vortex, Steiner, Bushnell...
between the heavy weight, muzzle device, and a low recoiling round, it is a very pleasant rifle to shoot in 6 creedmore. I haven't weighted mine yet, but I'd bet it is +/-20 pounds with a Razor2, ARCA rail, Atlas bipod, and a full mag.
both the NX8 and RG3 have very bright illumination. I cannot envision a scenario where max level would be needed on either optic.
more range time today on my RG3 and did some brief comparison between it and the NX8. the size difference between the two is noticeable but I prefer the reticle on...
I have a DD4v11 pro that uses their 18 S2W profile barrel - it is a very nice barrel. While expensive, DD makes quality AR15s. I'm not sure they are the best available, or the best value, but they are solid and dependable.
The Burris XTR2 line isn't my favorite. I've owned 2. neither was bad, they just weren't my favorite.
that said, the 5-25 at optics planet for $650 is a pretty solid deal as long as you:
1) don't mind the odd camo (I've never heard of Prym1 Sand)
2) don't mind shopping at optics planet.
my Razor 3 is in a Scalerworks, not a whole lot of rounds down range but the fit & finish are great. I noticed that Aaron from Sage Dynamics was running a Scalerworks in his RG3 review. I strongly suspect his test punished that optic/mount combo more than I will over many years.
I have a trio...
seems sort of gimmicky - while I appreciate the leveling mechanisms built into some 1 piece mounts, I haven't found them to be a true as doing it the old fashioned way with a pair of levels
in my amateur opinion the RG3 (and similar scopes) offer a metic ton of utility and could fit a large number of roles:
1) DMR/SPR/REECE type build (the MK12 had a 2.5-8/3.5-10 if memory serves) in a caliber of your choice.
2) a hunting rifle for much of the US - I cannot think of a shot (semi or...
first range trip today. I did little more than set zero at 10, 25, and finally 50 yards.
at 1x I think Vortex has an absolute home run. the illumination is daylight bright - as in 11 is way overkill and I cannot see how it would ever be used.
eyebox and field of view are both excellent. if...
I started this thread asking about the T5Xi and my feelings were confirmed - thanks all for chiming in.
the thread has morphed into a mid range high/mid range search thread involving another line from the original manufacture and several other scopes...
How about the Steiner PX4i? About the same size as the NX8, but with what feels to be a more forgiving eyebox. While I've got very limited experience with a Trijicon TR24, I'm surprised this hasn't already been mentioned.
that is what I was going to go with - I've had great luck with everything Badger sells, but I feared the 1/2" mounting nuts could cause some bloody knuckles with a side charging carbine. if you are running a traditional AR that should be a sweet piece of kit.
Mine arrived today (thanks Liberty Optics!).
first opinion - it's everything I love about the gen2 with a much better reticle and first focal plane. it's not sunny today, but I have zero expectation that the illumination will wash out even in the most extreme sunlight conditions. on that note...
As others have said. Razor 2 is the answer.
There are other LOW scopes that might be as good but aren’t yet proven that in the PRS world to the degree that Vortex is.
You might be able to find a Leupold MK5 at that price if you like their reticle choices and don’t mind not having...
