Daniel defense ar15 barrels

I do believe thays the same barrel they use in their "Mk12" rifle.

Edit: I think their Mk12 barrel is stainless actually. Either way they make good barrels and they actually make them, not FN or some mystery company.

I have a DD4v11 pro that uses their 18 S2W profile barrel - it is a very nice barrel. While expensive, DD makes quality AR15s. I'm not sure they are the best available, or the best value, but they are solid and dependable.

Daniel Defense makes one of the best Cold Hammer Forged barrels... Period.

They are great and last forever.

I’ve always wanted to say ‘FPNI’

DD CHF chrome lined barrels are monsters for longevity under hard use/abuse and shoot better than you’d expect for a gov’t profile CHF barrel.

However, if you’re buying for a precision rifle, which most shopping for heavy profile 18” barrels are, you might be a bit happier with something else.

DD makes a good barrel, no doubt (especially after they fixed the gas port on the 10.3 barrel). But, there are certainly comparable/better options, such as Centurion, Hodge, or FN. Even SOLGW has a fantastic barrel. DD has some interesting politics anyways, so I just choose to go a different route.

A SOLGW barrel is better than a Daniel Defense barrel? I'm almost certain SOLGW barrels are made by Ballistic Advantage.

I have an early DDM4V7. It shoots 2 MOA with 55gr Speer Gold Dot and Winchester PDX1...but that is with an EOTech, and I'm sure that I'm the limiting factor. POI shift through 4-5 types of ammo has been less than 1/2" at 50 yards...I don't even mess with a re-zero if I change ammo.

I have a three-year old DDM4V7. That rifle shoots 1.5 MOA with the same ammo, but it wears a 1-4 Accupower. I haven't shot a brand of M193 clone ammo that is worse than 2 MOA (Federal, Norma, and XM193 Federal stuff). I've seen only about a 1-1.5 MOA POI shift across most brands of ammo too.

I also have an Ambush Arms 6.8 (Daniel Defense). That rifle is MOA with factory Hornady 120gr SST. Never shot a round d od anything else through it.

I do have one FN barrel on a DMR II, and it is good, but it has been more picky with ammo.

I'm a fan of DD CHF barrels.

Just about the only complaint you will hear from me or anyone else is that they do not offer more barrel profiles or the S2W in a 16 or 14.5 length barrel.

This will reinforce what others have already said, but hopefully it provides some detail for folks who may be interested.

Where I work, we used to use Colt rifles. They were great. Never gave us a problem. Eventually, we got a new boss and someone got it in his head that we "need new rifles." So he approved new rifles for the whole department. We switched to Daniel Defense.

Our armorers maintain a certain number of rifles designated for training so that when we go to the range, we just use those.

During a conversation with two of the armorers, they gave me this little nugget:
The cold hammer forged barrels are lasting much longer than the Colt's barrels (not sure how the Colt's were mfr'd). We had already shot 40,000 rounds through the training rifles and they were not yet in need of a barrel swap. The Colt's typically required rebarreling after 10,000 rounds. The barrels we are using at work are the 14.5 mid-length, lightweight profile.

Another interesting anecdote: I own a BCM configured the same as the DD rifles at work (14.5, mid-length, ELW, cold hammer forged). The BCM heats up much, much faster than the barrels at work. I asked the armorers why this was (they are "BCM guys" when it comes to their personal stuff). They explained to me that the lock up system (barrel nut) on the Daniel Defense provides a better heat sink.

Based on my understanding, a barrel wears out based on how hot it gets and how "hard" it is run while hot. Assuming that's accurate, it would explain why the DD barrels are lasting so long (other than being CHF, the barrel isn't heating up very fast, so it's longevity is extended, possibly beyond other CHF barrels, as well). Not sure if that's all there is to it, but it's what I've put together based on what I've heard/seen.

I have one on my AR, and I'm happy with it. For me personally, I'm shooting roughly 1-1.5 inch groups at 100 yards with factory m193, and up to 1/2 inch groups with hand loads. I'm sure someone can shoot it better than me, but that's been my experience so far.

No the MK 12 used the Douglas Barrel
Compass Lake has good MK 12 barrels from Douglas.
Colt uses Rosco barrels currently……sadly a cheap barrel they don’t make anything at Colt anymore all contracted out.

The daniel defense MK12 used the Douglas barrel?
No. DD uses the MK12 nomenclature for marketing purposes. I've read (on here, I think... not sure how credible) that the DD barrel is not the true MK12 profile (the "clone correct" muzzle device and suppressor combo doesn't fit on the DD barrel... or some such).

Whether it's a good barrel or not is a different question, of course.

Why don’t you go the man designed the MK 12 mod 0 for Crane at High Cal Sales.

I got my barrel from MK 12 Douglas from Compass Lake and Frank White. (Frank retired again and left it to his son to run)
High Cal also have Recce 16” Douglas barrel same contour as MK 12 barrel.
Today I would suggest High Calibre Sales
