Advice on 223 low velocities versus manufacturer data

Even at the same barrel length some barrels will be slower than others. Some brands (Tikka) have a reputation for excellent accuracy but below average speeds. Please post some details on your setup and load data and we might be able to shed some more light.

MDT metal 223 or accurate metal

Just got an email from MDT, they expect to ship the backordered metal 223 magazine by the end of the year. Much faster than I expected given the scale of the sale. I'll circle back once I have it in hand.

MDT metal 223 or accurate metal

On black Friday optics planet had the MDT polymer magazines for around $17, free shipping over $50. I ended up going with the MDT metal magazine for $40+ shipping from MDT. I'd be hard pressed to drop the normal price of either without knowing it would work. I couldn't find many reviews on the...

    6.5 creedmoor 147

Start low and work up, watching for pressure signs. Nobody will be able to tell you what load is plug and play with your setup. One thing to keep in mind, I know starlines 223 has less case capacity that other brands. Not sure if that's the case in 6.5 as well.

    Barrel Blanks advice!

Patriot valley still has their black friday sale on their website. 223 prefit ready to rock for $479. Heck of a value if you're looking at $350 for a blank + $300 to chamber and thread it. If you're just "plinking up to 600 yards", a quality blank chambered by a quality smith will be more than...

Who would you have built a quality rifle?

As above, depends how custom you want your custom. No frills with high end parts, you can assemble an origin or similar at home and drop it into the stock of your choosing and come out way cheaper.

    Osprey Barrel Works

I appreciate the reply and understand it's obscure. I ordered a straight 223 from you on Saturday, I'll just have to "suffer" through it (mostly suffer through the case trimming). Thanks for always running a sale for us, haven't gotten a bad barrel yet.

    Help with PRC 6.5

H1000 and 140 class bullets are a good bet. Follow the above Hornady data and the data on Hodgdon's site and you should be in the right area. Nosler has 6.5 PRC data on their site as well.

    White oak armament SPR barrels?

Johnny's reloading bench on youtube uses WOA barrels in his 223 videos. Lots of content there, summary is they shoot above what you would expect for a $200 barrel. If I ever want a precision gas gun, WOA.

    Black Friday Sales 2021

Looking for a deal on an origin short action or a 223AI prefit, but I know they don't really show up below MSRP much.

    Black Friday Sales 2021

Preferred has 10% off everything with code "Christmas2021" I know a lot of people like them. Mine is ok, but they were flexible on contour to make it fit my stock when others wouldn't be.

    Black Friday Sales 2021

Maybe we give them a full business day before we bring out the pitchforks? Dude was working customer service on Thanksgiving and something big comes up and everyone dog piles them. He told everyone to submit a ticket for review in the meantime. Jeez, have some patience. The decision you're...

    Black Friday Sales 2021

Grayboe has 20% off stocks and bottom metals on their website. Discount applied automatically at checkout. I think they usually do free shipping above $499 as well.

Bummer, was hoping to pick up a 223 AI prefit on sale.

    Experience with auto trimmers

Another vote for Giraud if you're doing a lot of brass in one cartridge family. I only shoot enough 223 to justify it, but it has been a massive time saver. Mine leaves some marks on the case body, just a heads up if you're anal about cases looking perfect.

    YHM Resonator or Turbo T2

I went 30 cal on my first and don't have any regrets. Back pressure will be higher on the 223 can and everyone will tell you that 223 doesn't suppress great anyway (more noise from crack than boom to start).

    The Primer Shortage

The longer .22 and primers sit at high prices the sooner they'll start to come down in price. Supply and demand, and I think demand for $100 bricks is waning fast.

Rifle Scopes Tikka VX-5HD mount recommendation

Leupold back country or the DNZ mounts if you're looking to use the factory stock and need to keep the optic low. A pic rail and rings will leave it mounted higher and might require a stock pack or something to get up there. If you don't plan on moving the scope around direct mounts may be best.
