So I have (mostly) decided on the VX-5HD for my 20” Tikka CTR. It’s really a all purpose build, Midwest yotes, whitetail, plinking and sooner or later an elk trip.
Really looking for opinions on a mount, in the past I just used the standard Leupold rings and bases, but that was with my white trash VX1 rigs. I don’t think I’ll need QD.
Point me in the right direction please.

I’d recommend just getting a pic rail base and decent quality rings. Area 419 makes a pretty good base and I have an all steel Burris one I have been happy with. Seekins precision rings are the easy button for quality rings

Nice, thanks guys. I always forget about Area 419 is definitely good sh*t.
The CTR came with a rail, I assume it is decent enough. Seekins it is, just need to finger-out the height now!

Spuhr does make a direct mount for the tikka I believe

Only quirk I remember reading is that it should be the t3x version with the slightly larger port, or it may have a clearance issue

Eliminating the rail should save a little weight, and spuhr has options galore for accessories in the future if you ever need it

I run qd larue mounts. Bombproof, made near me and return you zero had yielded .25 moa @ 100 yards with approximately 15 removals. I seriously can’t sing the praises enough.

edit: I just re read that you didn’t think you’d need qd. These are my first set and I can tell you this, I will NEVER own another scope without qd mounts. FWIW

419 rail and arc rings. You can thank me later 😉
Man, these ARC “split ring” deals are interesting, seems like it would take a lot of the back and forth out of the tightening process. Seem like high end stuff.

Don’t get me wrong, QD would be great, but on a hunting rig the damn levers would just be one more thing to snag and make me cuss more than normal. I don’t count grams but the less weight the better.

Just use the factory 0moa rail, you should have more than enough elevation.

As far as rings go, anything that cost of $50 from a reputable manufacturer will be fine. Vortex pro rings or Burris Signature rings are cost effective but do the trick.
Don't think you need to spend $200 to get a set of rings that will hold zero.

If you want to spend a lot of money then I like NF ultralite rings.

If you want weight savings remove the factory pic rail (which is a PITA by the way) and look at: Hunting model Spuhr direct mount, Talley lightweight direct mount rings, or Hawkins precision direct mount rings. (Or any other well known brand)

I went with the Spuhr mount myself. (Pic below) but like another user mentioned, it should be used on a T3X model with the enlarged ejection port.

If you don't care about weight (which you should if it's a general purpose hunting rifle) then you can do the factory/aftermarket pic rail and rings/mount.

For my Vx5hd on my T3x, I used a Mountain tactical 0 moa picatinny rail with recoil lug, EGW HD tactical low rings. They are 0.85”. I really like the setup
Nice looking rig!
I am leaning towards the ARC M10’s. Just not sure if I would be better of with the low rings @ 0.94” or x-low @ 0.79”. Your setup looks to have plenty of room out front, looks like the 0.79 would work fine.

It’s only a 44 objective and the KRG Bravo has the adjustable comb height so thinking maybe the lows. I don’t want to wait to get the damn scope to order the rings, but probably best I wait and use the penny measurement.

Leupold back country or the DNZ mounts if you're looking to use the factory stock and need to keep the optic low. A pic rail and rings will leave it mounted higher and might require a stock pack or something to get up there. If you don't plan on moving the scope around direct mounts may be best.

If it helps. My 0.85” rings also work with a 50mm scope that I’ve switched back and forth. So the .79 should work on your 44.

Dude if it's a hunting rifle, I just use the DNZ single-piece jobbers. I have a couple of Tikkas and aside from the silver of the DNZ rings being slightly different than the silver of my "stainless" Tikka Ultralites, they're perfect. Never had a single issue and both get dragged through forests because I'm one of those apparent idiots in my state that doesn't hunt 50 yards from the nearest path and instead goes deep. (Not that I find anything to shoot there either.) I guess on most rifle setups that aren't tactical oriented or you needing a 20+ MOA rail for ultra long range work, I really don't see the need for a rail and separate rings. Just adds more complexity to the mix when you could be far away from your tools. But that's just me...

So, I am still going back and forth on mount options. VX-5HD should arrive today and I need a mount asap.
What LaRue setup did you go with? Considering the QD now as I am too cheap at the moment to throw $5k at a thermal setup for the yote gun!

as for non QD I would probably go with the ARC.
