Range Report decided on .260...what bullet?

Re: decided on .260...what bullet? I went through the same thing not long ago and I'm in the process of building my .260. My words of advise would be make sure the chamber is cut with a free bore short enough so that the bullets can touch the lands and still fit in your magazine. I went...

Gunsmithing Had to saw off my nightforce rail... how common?

Re: Had to saw off my nightforce rail... how common? My NF NXS scopes will fit an action length rail without a problem, but they fit the longer NF rail better. I have another build with a Stiller SA and a NXS 5.5-22X-56mm. The Stiller action came with their rail, which is action length...

Gunsmithing Had to saw off my nightforce rail... how common?

Re: Had to saw off my nightforce rail... how common? I don't know if it is because my NF 5.5 - 22X scope has a longer tube or because I have my scope mounted further forward than you. Either way, my front ring attaches to that extension you cut off. If you scope mounts with proper eye...

    243AI Custom Build Ideas

Re: 243AI Custom Build Ideas If you have the barrels to burn, the .243AI is a fun cartridge. Recoil is low, accuracy is high, and it shoots like a laser. As I already have the dies, brass, etc for the .243AI, when it comes time to rebarrel I might stay with the cartridge. I'm thinking...

    243AI Custom Build Ideas

Re: 243AI Custom Build Ideas I have a custom Rem 700 in .243AI with a Broughton barrel, Jewell trigger, and NF NXS 5.5 - 22X scope in an A5 stock. It is my most accurate rifle but if I had had to do it again, I would choose a few things differently. Although I love the .243AI round, I don't...

    IMR 8208 XBR test

Re: IMR 8208 XBR test I just started working up loads with this powder and my Krieger barrel AR as well. So far, the groups are better than with Varget but I have a lot more load testing to do. I have a 1 in 8 twist and I was shooting the 69gr Nosler CC. 23.4gr of powder at mag length was...

    Gunsmithing .223 Wylde

Re: .223 Wylde The problem you have is not with the chamber, it is with the freebore. The chamber is just the dimensions for the cartridge, the free bore will decide how long you can load your bullet out to. For instance, I just had a .260 Rem chambered and had the choice to have a .06"...

    what brass should i use?

Re: what brass should i use? Lapua is known for their better consistency than most other makers of brass out there. Their special blend of brass alloy is known to last through more reloads then most of the other brands. If you want the best in accuracy, then Lapua is what most people will...

Rifle Scopes Need help chosing a scope

Re: Need help chosing a scope Of the 4, I have only owned the Sightron SII that you speak of. It has been a good scope and the glass is as good as Leupold (in my opinion). I've also done the box test with it and found it to track well.

    Gunsmithing Boltface modification???

Re: Boltface modification??? I have a souped up Remington as well as custom actioned rifles in the safe. I like some of the features of the customer actions better, but my Remington shoots lights out. When I go Prairie Dog hunting, my Remington action .243AI always comes out as it performs...

I would like to get started suggest please

Re: I would like to get started suggest please I would start shooting your 06 the most and work on your skills there. If you start reloading, focus on finding the powder your rifle likes as well as the distance off the lands that your bullet likes. Doing ladder testing is probably the best...

    does this look ok?

Re: does this look ok? Note, as long as you are using the same rounds in the same rifle, then it should cause no problems. If the brass was originally shot in a different rifle and then reloaded and shot in another rifle, it might cause problems chambering

Rifle Scopes Nightforce NXS 12-42X with NP-R2 problem or not??

Re: Nightforce NXS 12-42X with NP-R2 problem or no I have the 5.5 x 22 NXS with the NP-R1 reticle and notice a similar problem. With the cross hairs being so thin, it is hard for my eyes to focus on the cross hairs and get them to be clear. With the ocular in focus it is still hard to...

    Gunsmithing best rem 700 trigger

Re: best rem 700 trigger I just got a Jewell put on my .243AI for shooting PDogs. Worked great and the 1lb setting made shooting dogs at 500 yards a lot easier. That being said, the width of the trigger is quite narrow. For my .260 build I'm going to try the Timney as they have the wider...

    Hornady, first press?

Re: Hornady, first press? The LNL feature is not a big deal on the Hornady single stage press. It saves time, but not that much. I use a Rockchucker for my single stage and a Hornady for my progressive. I like Hornady products as they are inovative and would probably go to their single...

    neck sizing?

Re: neck sizing? I've read that you should neck size most of the neck but leave a little unsized. The reason is the unsized portion will center the bullet in the chamber when it is loaded in the rifle. Can't say I've seen a difference in accuracy by doing this, but it seems to make sense.

    Suppressors colt 1911's

Re: colt 1911's If you are looking for something to hold value and hand down through the family, the Colt is probably your best bet. They typically have a looser fit, but most all gun smiths say if you are going to build a 1911 for value, use a Colt as the base gun. Most smiths I know...

Opinions wanted on RCBS ChargeMaster Combo

Re: Opinions wanted on RCBS ChargeMaster Combo I bought mine last year and it works great. I've heard the same problems but I have never encountered them myself on my own unit or some of my friend's. I believe RCBS has all the bugs worked out on this machine now.

    Cleaning Product "Wipe-Out" any opinions?

Re: Cleaning Product "Wipe-Out" any opinions? I haven't tried Wipe-Out, but I am using Gunslick Pro foaming cleaner which I'm sure is similar. I used it for the first time this last week. After shooting 170rds out of my .243AI I spayed the foam in the barrel and let it sit for 30 minutes...
