PRS Talk better bullet selection for 308 win (right now using 178 ELDM at 2660fps)

They shoot good for me, my previous load was with WIN brass, 44gr of varget seated .005" off the lands, 2660fps. it was .5" or less at 100yds once I got myself fixed. before i fixed myself it was 3 in one hole, with two "flyers" that were my fault. I know my gun shoots them, so its just a...

PRS Talk better bullet selection for 308 win (right now using 178 ELDM at 2660fps)

I’m going to work some load development this weekend/next week on the 178’s and if I get something I am happy with I’ll order 500 more of them, they work pretty good,

    .308 load idea

http://optimalchargeweight.embarqspace.com/ocw-load-recipes/4533485759 With the LC Brass try 41.5 grains (i’d Dedicate a few shots for a pressure test work up, then try 5 or 10 at 41.5). I’ve tried a few of these and the 4895 load with FGMM brass was dead on Win brass will need a little bit...

Advanced Marksmanship Jedi Stable Kneeling Position

Don’t try that with a heavy recoiling gun, I can’t imagine that is not very stable, but maybe it is How is that more stable than a traditional sling kneeling? I think a bigger concern is the head/eye position, it’s gotta be easy to can’t the rifle that way

Advanced Marksmanship App for measuring distance to target?

I downloaded google earth, I'll try that tomorrow at the match. what I am unsure of without trying it out is if I can drop a point (at a target for example) and then walk/drive a few hundred yards to a firing position and then measure the distance. land marks visible from a satellite are...

Advanced Marksmanship App for measuring distance to target?

yeah way in the weeds, measuring “distance” on the surface of the earth can get weird for sure, I’m just wanting to get close enough for shooting, I’ll play around with google earth/maps to see how “true” I can get it, I figure +\-30yds should get me a hit on a 20” target or at least close...

Advanced Marksmanship App for measuring distance to target?

two part question: first, how are the ELR folks measuring distance (like out to 6kyds)? secondly, are there any apps that will work decently well to range out to about 1000. I know this is in the realm of many LRF's but I am saving up for a LRF right now, so I won't have it within the next...

    Removing the human element...shooting vises?

experiment with how you can get consistently comfortable behind the rifle. experiment with rear bags if you have a bipod experiment with various bags for the front and rear if no bipod is used. dry fire 3 times for every live fire shot when shooting for groups. take 2-4 shots, then get up...

PRS Talk better bullet selection for 308 win (right now using 178 ELDM at 2660fps)

I've read your discussion of 2000mr and the 185 jugs. . . .looks like a great load. 2000mr is on the list of stuff to try, it seems to make some great velocities.

PRS Talk better bullet selection for 308 win (right now using 178 ELDM at 2660fps)

I am using winchester brass and 44 grains of varget, I could push it faster but I was getting some soot around the primer pockets so I backed it down to a lower node. i loaded up some 178's with lapua brass yesterday, .2g steps from 43 to 44 grains, i'll check velocity on them and see how...

PRS Talk better bullet selection for 308 win (right now using 178 ELDM at 2660fps)

i know the 308 is dead and can't hit anything beyond 800 yds and it kicks like a mule etc etc, and i'm gonna keep shooting mine I've been pushing 178 ELDM's at about 2660 out of a 24" K&P barrel using varget and winchester brass the win brass is on its last leg (7 firings) so I am taking this...

    Ruger Precision Rimfire Mods

awesome thanks, that is my only real complaint with the RPR that I haven't addressed yet, i had to do some tweaking to get it to eject and polished the bolt, not a great thing to need to do, but it was the most affordable way to get my 4 and 7 year old kids a gun that can be adjusted to properly...

What rifle for Kiddo shooting NRL22 matches?

Thanks, the ckye-pod is mine, but she is trying to steal it because the Harris is “stupid” and can’t go the that perfect height that she needs

What rifle for Kiddo shooting NRL22 matches?

My 7 year old loves her RPR rimfire, and the quick adjustments make it fun for me as well. The bolt was/is tight, but it has smoothed out with some help from a dremmel/polish, The ejection was iffy because the spring holding the shell against the ejector wasn’t aligned the right way, so i fixed it

What is good SD/ES for Rimfire ammo?

I may have found a magic lot of Eley Target, only 10 shots down range with it, .1” group at 50 yds and SD of 6, es of 17. More testing to follow to see if these 10 shots were a fluke and of the accuracy holds relatively true at 100 yds Either way I have 500 rounds of it
