    Help With a Spotter Purchase

I'll be very interested to read about your impressions. BTW, only because of the size & weight of the Viper 20-60x80 HD, I'm now wishing I'd gone the extra coin for the Razor HD 16-48x65. A decade from now I bet I'm not going to look back and regret the extra price difference. "Buy Once, Cry...

    Help With a Spotter Purchase

It had a lot of CA, especially at the middle to higher zoom ranges. It could be bad enough under some situations that high contrast things looked like blurry double-vision. When I ordered it, my minimum expectation was to be able to see .223 holes in the black up to 200 yards. It turned out I...

    Help With a Spotter Purchase

I had a Vortex Viper 20-60x80 Angled (non HD) and was very unhappy with it. Fortunately I was able to return it and upgrade to the Vortex Viper 20-60x80 Angled with the HD glass. Its a huge improvement over the non-HD! My only complaint is that the neoprene covers Viper sends out with these...

Bushnell Legend, Elite or Vortex Viper Spotting Scope? (all 20-60x80)

Good suggestion! Please add the Vortex Viper 20-60x80 HD (~$750) to the above lineup. BTW, Is there a significant difference in optical quality between the Vortex Viper 20-60x80 and the Vortex Viper 20-60x80 HD?

    Rifle Scopes Mueller APV

I have one on a .17 HMR. For the price its a good deal. I was really surprised at how bright & clear it is at dusk compared to my collection of 1980s & 1990s Leupolds & Bushnell Elites. Don't know how well it will handle the recoil of your particular rifle though. Good luck, B

    Rifle Scopes Cleaning scope lense.

I'm a newbie here, but do have some experience with cleaning camera lenses. Don't like canned air - some cans sometimes spew a minor amount of unknown liquid onto the lenses, making the cleaning job harder. Not all canned air is made to the same standard. Acetone? I don't doubt it will...

Rifle Scopes Who makes the lowest Picatinny rail mount for Rem 700 LA?

Who makes the lowest Picatinny rail mount for a Rem 700 long action, preferably a quality mount with a recoil lug? (Tried mounting a Steiner 4-16x50 Military (34mm tube) on a 700 long action with an EGW 20 MOA mount and NightForce Ultralight Medium rings. This setup ended up being too high.)...

Rifle Scopes Optical/Mechanical Quality: Bushnell & Vortex Razor HD

I'm a big fan of the Bushnell Elites (mostly 4200s) on many of my short-medium range hunting rigs. I've never had one go south on me so far (knock on wood.). I've picked up some of the illuminated 30mm 3.5-10x50 for good prices on eBay. Relatively heavy but decent glass for the price for...

Rifle Scopes Rem 700 rail mount screws ever shear from recoil?

I'm about to mount a 33.6 oz Steiner Military scope w NF Ultralight rings onto a Rem 700 7mm Mag. The mount currently on the rifle is an $40 EGW 20 MOA Tactical picatinny rail mount (aluminum & no recoil lug.) The mount isn't bedded, thought there is blue Loctite on the screws. Its a hunting...

    Rifle Scopes Multi-Purpose Scope Recommendation?

Wow! Thanks for all the replies & great info. Seems like the only scopes that would fit my definition of multi-purpose with all of my personal criteria are the March scopes, and they are out of my price range. From all my research, I think the problem is my laundry list of criteria have...

Any Interest in Steyr SSG 69 Aluminum Trig. Guard

I'm interested in one too, especially if there is a group buy. High time to upgrade from those flimsy, $69 (when you can find them) plastic magazines. B NRA Life Member NRA Certified Instructor

    Rifle Scopes Multi-Purpose Scope Recommendation?

Thanks roggom, Yup, those guys at Gunwerks can do amazing things. The top magnification on the NF you mentioned is a bit lower than what I'm looking for, however, I'm noting you like your NF. Regards, B

    Rifle Scopes Multi-Purpose Scope Recommendation?

Howdy, There is tons of great info in this forum, but personally the more I read, the more confusing it gets since I don’t have the hands-on experience on which to base the decisions, or the ability to check out the hardware before buying… so here goes… Up till now all my 45+ years of hunting...

Rifle Scopes Mil-Dot, Mil-Rad, MOA reticle learning curves?

DFOOSKING, Thanks you very much for the reply. Unfortunately I live in an area where few folks run the scopes discussed in this forum, so its tough to check them out. I was able to check out, however, a 8-32x56 NF and 6-20x50 M4 Leupold at dusk this evening, but neither of these are under...

Rifle Scopes Mil-Dot, Mil-Rad, MOA reticle learning curves?

Howdy, Are there any significant differences in the learning curves for using these different types of reticles? Is one faster than the others in terms of making mental calculations when you don't have time to spin turrets, consult your Kestrel-PDA etc. setup? Once learned, which one is...
