Pa plxc 1-8, vudu 1-10, razor 1-10. Looking for real world input.

The Eotech doesn't look like it solves any of my problems. Amd it's heavier. I did add a piggyback red dot. That helps for most short range stuff. Last comp I left the scope at 2x and used the dot most of the time.

    Eotech Vudu X 2-12

    Squirrel rifle

No doubt, shots through the brain put them down. "Glancing blows" is to be expected with RN ammo. Not always, but the right angle and conditions will allow it. The same phenomenon has been documented with pistol ammo in people.

    Squirrel rifle

Surprised to see the suggestions of using RN ammo. It'll work sometimes but Ive had many "got aways" from RN ammo. Even direct head shots aren't reliable. I've had multiple headshots that resulted in a squirrel being knocked unconscious only to start moving again after a period of time. I...

    Squirrel rifle

As everyone else has said, a bolt action with sub sonic HPs is the way. Preferably with a can. I use CZ 452s. My preferred ammo is Eley SSHP. Very accurate and very soft lead. The CCI 45gr HP suppressor ammo is also good.

    BCGs “Optimized” for Suppressors

That's odd. I'm using the Bootleg on a minimally gassed 12.5 with an A5H2. The 12.5 barrel is a BRT with their "EX-C" length gas port. It's between mid and carbine.

    BCGs “Optimized” for Suppressors

I also have a Bootleg. It works well but: - it has less adjustment range than a gas block. If your rifle is severely over gassed it probably wont be enough - even in the "normal" position it still seems to cycle slower than a standard BCG. Normally no big deal, but if you have an optimized...

77 gr Sierra SMK’s deer hunting

223 absolutely works with correct placement, although I've witnessed SMK do poorly. I helped recover a deer that had multiple hits from a 77 SMK in the chest with almost no internal damage. I wonder if SMK is more velocity dependent? He had a 16" AR and was using a slow factory load like...

    Beating a Dead Horse - LPVO 1-8 /1-10

Reminds me of the Bushnell SMRS. I like the reticle style a lot, but wish it was a generic mil scale for the vertical vs. random BDC

    Beating a Dead Horse - LPVO 1-8 /1-10

It's a shame. The PLX-C is a great design that's really hampered by the reticle. I'm not all that concerned about illumination, I just want a clean and usable reticle like the FC-DMx or Athlon Helos 2-12.

    Beating a Dead Horse - LPVO 1-8 /1-10

The PLX-C is a great optical design but the reticles suck IMO. PA has a bizarre obsession with combining chevrons (which suck for precision) and multiple ranging ladders/trees. It's like 75% of the reticle isn't even there for shooting. I'm tempted to swap my PLX-C to an NX8 for the improved...

    Optic for 30/30 modernization build

Go red dot. If it must be USA get an RMR. Otherwise go Holosun. ETA: Ive shot a friend's 1894 44 mag with a Burris Fast fire on it. The small dot isn't even noticeable in terms of weight and handling but is a huge upgrade over irons.

    which yhm suppressor

I own a Turbo K and R2. On a 16" AR I would not recommend the R2. Too long and heavy. I wouldn't want anything longer or heavier than a Turbo K on a 16" AR. The sound difference at the shooters ear is basically zero (with a tuned GB). The R2 is lower back pressure.

Scope: Hunting 200 Yards and in.

I've also enjoyed red dots on lever guns. A small MRDS adds no weight is is much easier to use than irons in all conditions. Magnification is still nice in thick woods though. There are those "thread the needle" shots at <100 yards where it's helpful to see in detail which part of the deer is...

Scope: Hunting 200 Yards and in.

A lever gun is a light and trim rifle. It really needs a light and compact scope to complement it. My 30-30 has a Redfield (Leupold) 2-7 on it. It's a good match for the rifle size and capabilities. If I were buying today I'd look at the Burris 2-7 or if spending more maybe a 3-9 AccuPoint...

If the manufacturer was listening, what realistic thing would you change about your favorite optic?

I wish Primary Arms would sell the PLX-C 1-8 with a simple reticle. Remove half the "features" and all of the pubic hairs on the main stadia. Cut the mil holdover down to ~7-10 max. Basically use the FC DMx or Athlon 1-10 reticle. I'd even tolerate the Chevron if the rest of the reticle...

Rifle Scopes [Late] PA PLX 1-8 Compact review

I also have the PLX C with Mil reticle. The reticle is my number one gripe. Both the meter and yards BDC versions have their own negative quirks as well. It's a shame PA tries to be just a bit too clever with the reticle design. I keep looking at the FC-DMx longingly.
