Re: Start of New Range
Nice! Keep updating with pics.
I am looking for some land to do the very same thing. I need to find a friend with a dozer too...lol
Re: Savage F/TR Barrel issue
KSchilling, thanks for the response and the offer, I may very well take you up on that if I can't find anyone locally to take a look-see.
Denys, the spot is ~1.25in from the muzzle and looks like what a ceramic would look like if there was a fracture and then a...
Re: Savage F/TR Barrel issue
Dangit, silly phone just deleted my response.
Thanks for the link, didn't mean it was a casting but that it looks like casting flaws i have seen before, especially in al...like a chunk delaminated. I guess a dull tool and/or not enough lube could have galled or...
Re: Savage F/TR Barrel issue
Thanks for the responses guys! Replying via cell phone so forgive grammar.
i know the pic isn't very good but i think you are right, looks like a casting flaw as a layer of ss peeled/broke off...a semi-galled look. With only 600rds, i don't know if it's done...
I just noticed this chunk missing tonight while cleaning the barrel. I can feel it with a patch, guessing .5mm deep. I can't tell if there are any other bad spots in the bore other than this, no bore scope.

Gun has exactly 598 rounds through it, 250 since last...
Re: 1st FTR shoot and I won!
Congrats and nice shooting! I have only shot in a match once and my story sounds just like yours, minus the winning part...lol, not even close.
I need to get a timer as well..I felt myself rushing as others were finishing up and I had no idea on how much time...

Re: question for Savage 12 F T/R owners .308 30in
I am super green compared to the knowledge above but fwiw I have the same gun.
Your barrel is 12 twist so as mentioned, limit your bullet wt (length really) to the Berger 185btlr, word is their 185 hybrid is too long to use in a 12 twist...
Re: Looking to get started in F-tr?
Thanks AG!
Shredder58: I would love love love to have that rifle but don't have the dough. My savage can well out-shoot me any day of the week, plus if it's good enough for team savage, it's plenty good enough for silly little me! :-)
Re: Range report Savage FTR WOW
No problem, just glad I can help as I have been helped by so many good people on here...Jeff Rorer, Darrell Buell, Andrew McCourt, Bohem, etc, etc.
I shoot the lighter loads better but want to shoot the heavies because of the wind...I figure it's easier for me...
Re: Berger hybrid 168's
With Varget, win brass and fed primers, I started at 43.5gr, .015" jump (2.214" to Ogive). My most accurate load is 46.6gr, 2960fps (30" barrel).
I haven't fooled with the jump any so will let you know when I do.
Re: Range report Savage FTR WOW
I love my savage FTR as well...thing is for sure a factory hammer.
stg58: With 185btlr bullets, I went up to 45gr of Varget in win brass/fed primers in my Savage (.015" jump, 2.2315" to Ogive) but it was more accurate around 44grs, still working on fine tuning...
Re: S&B's New Facility In Virginia
Does S&B happen to need a ME who is also qualified to sweep floors, wash windows or anything else required to get my foot in the door? ;-)
Re: BERGER BULLETS
I've got some loaded up with Varget for my Savage FTR...Lord willing, I will finally get out and shoot tomorrow so I will report back with results.
I'm jumping them .015" for starters (2.215 to Ogive in my chamber).
Re: Factory 308 Ammo for F T/R?
PM McCourt Munitions on here (Andrew). Not only is his ammo very very affordable, the only thing hindering it's bughole accuracy in your rifle is the fine tuning to your particular set-up...which he will also do for you. You not only get superb handloads, you...
