Hunting & Fishing Got drawn for elk! Help me choose a caliber!

Thanks for the suggestions Mark. I'm leaning toward the 7 saum. I currently have 150 accubond lr on order but will look at the heavier option. I'm not a fan of the finicky tuning of the Berger vld's but I may have to go that route. Awesome story Steve! Sent from my GT-P5210 using Tapatalk

Hunting & Fishing Got drawn for elk! Help me choose a caliber!

Thanks. Can't wait to see which unit I actually got. The terrain in northern AZ is highly varying. Two of the hunts I put in for are in somewhat open range, whereas the others are in forest/hilly areas. Two different hunting strategies... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Hunting & Fishing Got drawn for elk! Help me choose a caliber!

Thanks, and I totally agree about shot placement. Right now I'm rockin it with the 260 at 545 But I'd really like to have more energy behind it. The 7SAUM isn't built for the same accuracy but I can keep it sub MOA with the right load, and it's only a 12lb rifle all up. Sent from my SCH-I545...

Hunting & Fishing Got drawn for elk! Help me choose a caliber!

Thanks! Not sure the unit yet, they've just pinged my bank account on Friday. I'm thinking it's either 2ab, 7w, or 6b. I put in for 27 as my first choice, but seeing that I had no bonus points I doubt I got that. I put in for my hunts based on last year's draw odds vs hunt success and choose the...

Hunting & Fishing Got drawn for elk! Help me choose a caliber!

Thanks for the vote of confidence in the 7SAUM. I was worried(hoping) I'd have to build another rifle! Right now I'm running the 140 accubond with the "canned" accuracy Load(59.5 4831sc) it's shooting 1moa at 540 right now, but I'm hoping my backorder of 150 accubond lr comes in. I'm thinking...

Hunting & Fishing Got drawn for elk! Help me choose a caliber!

I've been killing steel for a few years now, and recently took up hunting. Arizona is a draw state for pretty much all big game other than mountain lion. I was unsuccessful in my draw for deer last season and was sure that elk would be an even bigger long shot. Not so! I got drawn! Yeah, it's...

    260 Loads Only

I'm really liking my 140amax over 43.2gr h4350. It's super consistent through my Krieger 8.5 twist. Shot two, three shot groups at 545 yards, back to back but on two different plates. One measures 2.75" and the other about 1.75". I'll take that! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Left to right windage creep out to 800 yards?

Tall target test as mentioned above, and worry about your reticle being level, not your rifle, when shooting. I highly suggest a scope bubble level and true it to the reticle by lining the vertical crosshairs with a plumb Bob out at about 20 yards. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

I dont understand the whole "gun will hold _moa @ _yrds".

As the distance increases, effects of mirage, wind, muzzle velocity variances, spin drift, gyroscopic effects, all become amplified. It's really as simple as that. Even assuming it's a cloudy day and no wind whatsoever, a simple muzzle velocity inconsistency of, say, a 30fps spread would open...

260 Load Data using Lapua SenarL 136gr

So long as bearing surface area are the same from the 139s to 136s you should be ok at 42, but I'd start at 40.5 to 41 just to be safe. There's probably a whole other accuracy node above that 42 grains, too. I'm running 43.2 as my accuracy Load out of my 260, no pressure signs at all. Sent from...

Rifle Scopes Vortex Viper PST clarity

If you're thinking vortex, by all means choose the 6-24. There are several threads validating my personal experience that the 4-16 glass quality has the potential to be cloudy. Some people got lucky and didn't have that problem(or they have never looked through super high end glass to know the...

Rifle Scopes Vortex Viper PST clarity

My mk4 m5 5-20x50 is ffp. It's not MOA, but it is mil/mil and turrets that match the reticle are infinitely more important than whether it's mil or MOA. They both serve the same exact purpose. If you only know MOA I suggest you learn mils as well. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
