And you would balk if you were told a Marlin 357 using 16 grains of Lil Gun pushes a 158 JSP about 2050, and hits real close to a thutty thutty, and flattens woods range deer w/o enough blast to need plugs....would happily poke deer to 200 yds with one. Longest kill 6BR 105gr over 28.5gr...

Opinion on Using a BAT Action in a Tactical Rifle

Well I differ, my first and only BAT action was SHODDY, the feed ramp was all buggered up, and I sold it, had great actions from Stiller and Borden since. Lots of choices of high quality durable reliable accurate actions..........

    7mm choice in an SA - 7-08, 708AI, or 284 ???

54 - agree, ran #'s, again, this build is not to try doing something a good 6.5 will not, but trajectory is darned close, and energy is hanging with the 6.5s out to 600 yds or so, and when hunting my furthest shots have typically been 2/3's that distance. If I were building for 1K I would put a...

    short barrel cartridge choice help

10 in 308 and 338, 12 in 358. Range, 300-400 yds, depending on mv and bullet. I would run 200gr in 338, and 185 Barnes, in 358 I would run 225 Sierra for deer/hogs and smaller, Noz Partition 225 for anything larger. Pistol bullets were fun in my 350 RM MKII 77. I would personally go with a...

    7mm choice in an SA - 7-08, 708AI, or 284 ???

I do have the action, no doubt if I wanted to run a LA, a 280 would be a great choice.

Hunting & Fishing 6mm remington - for deer & coyote

If your rifle likes a 95 Ballistic Tip, and I have not seen a 243 or BR that did not yet, flatten a few deer and see for yourself.

Any 16-19" shorty 6.5 Creedmoor or 260rems out there?

Had 260s, have a Creed, and plans to do a 47, and it will be 20-21.5" - subtle differences but all 3 accurate and overlap in speed.

    7mm choice in an SA - 7-08, 708AI, or 284 ???

Sure the 7C would be sweet, but the factory ammo and stamped brass trump it for me using a 7/08. I will likely run alot of 120-140s in the rifle as my main ranges is 415 yds and under...a 150 SMK or 140 Berger should do well in wind, though will see what 162/168s will do. The latter will...

    Need 7mm-08 short barrel help

17, for me a 23" is about the max, and I really prefer the feel of a 20-21" bbl in handling, but with a stiff sporter, like a 3, 4 or Light Palma contour for steadiness. M7 never floated my boat in precision, had a few, rebarreled one, cured it. Not a flyweight rifle fan, but like a portable...

    Tikka T3 Lite in 7-08

Swede is sweet, believe not currently imported. Shot my furthest deer kill at 400 yds, using a 6BR and 105 amax, accuracy and using a good bullet is key.

55= Sako new, prob Steyr, Tikka, Rem, Ruger, and Winchesters are on used racks. Consider a Weatherby S2 in 6.5 Creedmoor....... IF compared to 308, 6.5s have shorter bbl life, but not as bad as 243 and other 6mms, save the BR. The benefits outweigh the cons if you reload, if not the...

    7mm choice in an SA - 7-08, 708AI, or 284 ???

Thanks for the reply, I had no plans to alter a good custom action, prob just opt for a reamer w/good throating.

    Tikka T3 Lite in 7-08

Consider a 243, using 95 Nosler BTs or 80/85 Barnes, and flatten any deer/hog to 400 yds....with mild recoil - your wife will shoot it better.

    7mm choice in an SA - 7-08, 708AI, or 284 ???

Drew, I have two projects in mind over the future, one in 6.5 as we discussed in the past, and at a later point, a 2nd that will be a 7mm. Unless compelled otherwise, it looks like given my choice of SA action, and bbl 23" max, the 7/08 will be used, and of course factory ammo an option if ever...
