    New Reloading Strategy

Not being in survival mode myself, if I were in survival mode, don’t I want an accurate load?

    New Reloading Strategy

Try this...shoot 10-20 shots in to separate bullseyes....ladder loads....shoot low to high...look for pressure and velocity Then with all acceptable velocity and pressure, find groups of 3 bullseyes that are closest. Shoot a 3 shot OCW on those. OAL.....0.050” off lands or max mag length...

Winchester Mod70 action for precision build?

I agree, but this is still one setting. I get that you can make a push feed throw them a mile down to barely coming out. You cannot easily have some stay i. The action for easy removal and some thrown clear with just a flick of the wrist. Parts need changed. Still I may try to dial back my XPR...

Second Howage barrel in second caliber?

It’s not a bad idea. How convenient is it for you to change barrels and resight in? I can see it for something like seasonal PRS switching to a long range hunting round or varmint to hunting, but hunting to hunting makes the timeline tighter. If the headspacing changes 0.002” will that screw up...

    Vortex vs Athlon

I would also keep the Arken in mind. People here seem to love it. For $550 Doug at Cameraland was selling the Athlon Ares BTR 2-15x50 MOA......This is a good scope. I have one. I’m testing it side by side with a PST Gen 2 3-15x44. I’m an idiot for buying both, but I needed to see both in the...

Wanting to buy another bolt action for 100yd paper punching.

I hear that is a great chassis.....I own it. Make sure you get one in your hand. Feel is importan. I bought like 5 grips before settling on my BCM grip. The trigger reach is sooooooo far that most grips don’t work for me. I have pretty big L or XL glove hands. I haven’t tried the MDT grip. I...

    A crash course on loading?

Be careful about open forum responses for new reloaders. Most of these folks went straight to get a manual....good advice. I always have 2-4 current books plus Quick Load. That said, the real value of the manual is it is showing you a well vetted process. What you see posted or in many videos...

    Small deer/big bear caliber?

Better just carry the 458 Lott. This is no time to puss out! I’m kind of joking, but the 458 Lott with light loaded 300/350’s is not too bad recoil-wise and quit grid on deer, i’d bet. In reality, I’m likely carrying my 300 Sherman deer rifle and my 45 Colt in a shoulder rig to have a gun on...

Advice Needed; Athlon Cronus BTR vs. Vortex Viper PST

If you are seriously comparing the PST Gen II to the Cronus BTR, The Cronus is in a fundamentally higher class.. Both are great scopes. IMO, you have to check for yourself these things to make your choice: -color rendering through the optic, preferably outside -turrets....feel, clicks, volume...

Gunsmithing A Question For The Hide’s Barrel Material Smiths/Experts

Please disregard my opinion....I’m just an old mechanical engineer who studies rifles as a hobby. If you could walk into a bar with a test engineer from a top barrel maker, or even a production rifle builder, you would be way better off. The thing is top barrel makers generally don’t have test...
