    Gunsmithing Building a Spray Booth

Re: Building a Spray Booth I was thinking the same thing (allowing the part to rotate). Away from anything the workpiece can touch. It sucks to have to re-do it.

    Gunsmithing Building a Spray Booth

Re: Building a Spray Booth I have also come to the conclusion that a dedicated spray booth is necessary. Lighting is a big issue. It is important with Cerakote to be able to see the application really well. However I set it up, the inside of the booth will be white to reflect the light. I...

    Gunsmithing Cerakote application questions

Re: Cerakote application questions Shot a Mauser tonight. I used an airbrush this time to check it out. I have an Aztek A470. I used a lot less product and liked the control it gave me. I am going to play with the different tips to see which one gives the best pattern. It's going to work...

Gunsmithing looking for ak-47 & 74 builders out there

Re: looking for ak-47 & 74 builders out there I have gotten started in building AK's. I am working on a Bulgarian AK-74 and a Romie AK-47. I also have a Yugo kit minus the barrel (should have read the fine print). It is a lot easier to do a good job on them with the proper tools, but for...

    Gunsmithing Cerakote application questions

Re: Cerakote application questions What are you guys using to plug the barrel when you are shooting the Cerakote? BTW, there is now a mini-manual on the NIC site that goes into more detail on prep and application. Cerakote Manual

    Gunsmithing Gunsmithing Prereq's

Re: Gunsmithing Prereq's Like Jim See said, make sure you get it writing what they will cover. It would suck to get into something expensive and find out the fine print said otherwise. Machining is a lot of fun, but I think a crack habit would be cheaper.

    Gunsmithing Gunsmithing Prereq's

Re: Gunsmithing Prereq's What is your AFSC? If it is 2A7X1, then you should have most of the training already. Unless you have a lot of money for the machinery, CNC won't do you much good. Besides, you really need to learn how to do it manually before you go to the big leagues. Like Chad...

    Gunsmithing The elusive FFL

Re: The elusive FFL The 07 is actually cheaper, which seems backwards. If you are not going to buy guns to modify and then sell, then the 01 will do. If you intend to buy, enhance, and then sell, you will need the 07. Some GS's got in big trouble over this issue.

    Gunsmithing Test Indicators

Re: Test Indicators I think either the .00005 or the .0001 will do fine. They are close to the same price, so get whichever floats your boat. I will get it close with the coarser indicator and then get it as zeroed as possible with the super fine indicator. I know you get what you pay for...

    Gunsmithing Test Indicators

Re: Test Indicators I have a couple of cheapie small Chinese-made mag bases that came with the first set of cheapie Chinese-made test indicators that I bought when I first got my lathe. I don't trust the indicators, but the mag bases work great. Mini Mag Base For the price, put the...

    Gunsmithing Test Indicators

When you are indicating an action or barrel, which level of test indicators are you using? .001, .0005, or .0001? I have .0005, but have lately been wondering if I should get some .0001's.
