Gunsmithing Need help, issues with gunsmith

Cut your losses and move on. I've seen those that lost several thousand and not recoup a dime. The gun industry is full of looser's. thieves and posers.

    Krieger vs Bartlein

I've owned and chambered both. The best Bartlein I ever owned was a four groove 6.5 years ago. Bartlien's 5r put me on the PRS map with our team rifles in 2013, 2014 & 2015 but, personally, I prefer Krieger 4 groove. The core Bartlein crew came from Krieger. Pick one and run it, you wont be...

    Gunsmithing Crowning a barrel

Dial your muzzle in by the bore and single point cut the crown with an 11 degree face and a 60 degree chamfer at the lands. I leave sharp 90 degree crowns on BR rifles but not field rifles.

Gunsmithing Barrel thread and shoulder machining?

Who ever machined those barrels doesn't understand how to set up their tooling or care about the end result. The barrel shoulder has chatter but can be saved, the threading tool was rubbing and those threads may be a wash. If I had that barrel in my lathe I'd cut it off and start over. Any...

    Best 6mm cartridge*

Having owned/shot/built/competed with several 6 mm's I'd say for PRS stuff its a toss up between 6XC and 6CM. I currently shoot a 6BR and 6CM and love both but, the 6BR is a 600 yard gun. 1,000 if the winds not too bad or you can wait on your condition to roll back in. My 6CM runs 105's @ 3080...

What does it take to get a reply from a gun builder

Guys, My www has been pulled down as I am in the process of slowing it down. Over the past few weeks I've probably turned down 30+ jobs. With back logs and delays I am no longer taking work. Within two years or less I will no longer be building rifles. You heard it here first. For future work...

    Gunsmithing EFR rail install

I went to the contour chart at CBI's web site. It appears that no HV is offered, only a varmint and light varmint. The largest OD is 1.057", dimension "A" on the chart. The barrel just gets smaller from there. I cant speak for Terry but as for me, I may have spoke too soon, maybe I should have...

    Gunsmithing EFR rail install

The shank/flat/breech is 1.250" on a HV, not 1.0625". You're thinking of the threaded portion, it wont fit.

    Gunsmithing EFR rail install

No, it does not. You'll have to turn down the barrel just ahead of the EFR in order for it to not touch. Look just behind this EFR and you'll see what I'm talking about. This is a LV barrel for comparison

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Knife sheaths

Really depends on the intended use/mission of the knife. If being carried as part of swat or combat kit I'd wear the knife in the front of my plate carrier where it could be reached with either hand, some where around the center mark. Right now, make a light fist and lightly hit your self in the...

    Gunsmithing Remington Action Truing Options?

I said truing, not turning. When you set a receiver up between centers what holds/drives it, a mandrel screwed into the threads locked up against the lug abutments? If so, you're simply following what's already there with your face cuts. At that point how do you skim cut the lug abutments and...

    Gunsmithing Remington Action Truing Options?

Aeon, you are correct about Mike Bryant's truing fixture predating mine, that's where I got the idea, he's a top shelf machinist. IMHO, your are incorrect thought about the PTG tooling being as good as the single point method. Contrary to popular belief, the PTG/Manson tooling will follow the...

    Gunsmithing Remington Action Truing Options?

Don't over think or over complicate the process. It's all about work holding 101, indicating the work piece as close to .0000" as possible and single point cutting to make the "Truing" cuts. Skip the long fixtures that hold the receiver at the front and rear receiver rings. Flexing the receiver...
