    OCW - Step 2 - 200 Yards

You might want to compare your handloads to some good factory match ammo, just to make sure it's not a trigger control issue. If you have a heavy trigger (4 pounds or more) that can be hard to control for precise firing and that may be the reason for the horizontal spreading of your groups...

    powder suggestions and findings…rem 700 aac-sd 20" aics 1.5 stock

If you really want to use the 760, work on up to 47 to 48 grains, per Sierra's max load data. Then you'll get enough velocity to make good long range shots. It should be running close to 2600 fps at that point anyway. The 44 grain charge from a 20" barrel very likely has you in the 2300 fps...

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

I do have some notes on volume comparisons between Lapua, Normal, Nosler, and Hornady (the new Hornady) and the Hornady was considerably tighter inside than the others. So it's thick, for sure...

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

Ghostface, that does seem to be Varget. With Hornady using boatloads of Varget, that could help explain where it's all going! If 43.4 is a node (which I'm assuming it is), that indicates that the Hornady brass is acting more like Lake City and Federal as far as volume, though I've not done any...

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

Pull a bullet, and weigh and photograph the charge and start a new thread and we'll see if we can figure it out.

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

I've see that too, regarding the Magnetospeed... it blew my mind to see a guy who was nailing our 12" 740 yard plate time after time take a break, install the Magnetospeed... then without a scope adjustment at all, he went right back to hammering that plate.

    OCW interpretation help

It may be that the 8208 is developing too much pressure for consistent accuracy at the levels around 41.5 and beyond. You do appear to have a node which may be centered at 39.7 or somewhere in that area. I would say you'd do better with 4064 or Varget with the 175's, and then see how the 8208...

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

That's interesting... I never looked at the primers, but have always figured there's practically no real difference between the match and regular primers, for any of the makers. I think QC is supposed to be higher, but who knows(?)...

    OCW test results. Help needed

I like 4 on SMK and 3 on AMAX as well... it's possible that the left shot in that group 4 with the AMAX was a pull... there's no trend in that direction at the next higher charge level, if you see what I mean.

    243 OCW help

42.3 does look pretty good. Those bullets are seating depth sensitive, and slightly varied powder charges will produce nearly the same effect as altering the OAL does, but as you point out the POI stability seems to be there around 42.3 grains. Work with some different seating depths at 42.3...

    Neck Tension inconsitancy

Just noting... when we've pulled down factory ammo to see what makes it tick, we've found that Federal Gold Medal Match, from one shell to another, *seems* to have different neck tension. It still shoots great, of course. So I think I'd first see if there is a problem, by shooting the ammo and...

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

The Nosler is pretty thick, similar to LC or Federal... so I'd look in the vicinity of 41.8 grains of 4064 with 175's, or 42.8 grains with 168's.

Flame me baby....What about Shepards scopes?

We had a fellow use one of these in a recent long range course we offer. I had not seen them work before, and for the most part, I'm not a fan of any style of hold-over reticle (including the Horus)... too much clutter in the lower half of the reticle really does negatively impact your ability...
