It does look very good! :)

Need help with 178gr A-Max load

That was referencing a heavy .223 bullet. Most bullets you'll shoot in 308's will be stabilized by 100 yards.

Need help with 178gr A-Max load

I have run between 43 and 44 grains of the 2460 with 155's with very good results. With Winchester brass, get closer to 44 grains... with Lake City, Federal... try 43.4 to 43.6 grains. With Lapua... about 43.6 also.

they should be about 3% apart. you don't see that with every test, and there can be all sorts of reasons for that... but as a rule, the OCW nodes are 3 percent apart, interspersed at 1.5% intervals with scatter nodes (which means that the scatters are 3% apart also).

Need help with 178gr A-Max load

If you could cram 49 to 50 grains of the 4350 into the case and seat the bullet long, it'll work. 2460 is going to be too fast for good load density with the 178's, but with the 155's it would work well. Varget at 43.1 grains in Winchester brass, or 42.6 grains in Lapua brass is the main match...

    ocw Lost on this one

Try 43.2 grains again... I think that shot to the right at 43.5 grains was possibly pulled, as there is not trend in that direction as the charge goes up to the next level. You might take it to 43.3 just to stay well away from the 42.9 grain level which shows a propensity to print left...

    Slow barrel with 4064?

Sometimes the chronograph is just not right... shooting at long range and plotting trajectory will reveal and apparent velocity much higher than the chronograph says.

    OCW Help Please

your charge weight graduations are larger than I like to see, but I think that 45.5 is going to be repeatable... if that's too much pressure, 43.5 looks good as well. These nodes don't seem to be spaced as you'd normally see them, but the target data is there.

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

We'd be suspecting H4895--not IMR... as you mention, IMR 4895 is dark grey... the H4895 looks much like the Varget.

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

All you need is 5 or 6 grains of the powder... fill a 380 shell casing... or 9mm... top it off and weigh the charge several times. Then do the same with Varget, and see how they compare...

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

2775... I really would say that's H4895, but again (I've been wrong before). :) H4895 and Varget are really hard to tell apart...

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

Sounds good... it may be Varget, but that would probably be a slow moving 155 grain load, I would think. AA4064 is very close to the IMR... it'll work. Maybe just a .2 grain tweak one way or the other, at most.

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

CK... that is probably something faster than Varget, but that's just a guess. It may be H4895, or could even be something faster still. It's a good idea to do comparative volume tests between the unknown powder and the powder you suspect it to be. Dip equal amounts of the powder into a Lee...

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

Hornady will often come right out and tell you what powder they're using... give them a call and if you get the right tech, he will probably tell you how to duplicate the Hornady factory load. I've yet to have any of the Hornady techs claim the "proprietary powder" thing... :o The Federal GMM...

    Has anyone else noticed..?

CK... good observation. I think there are some good reasons for what you've noticed, and you're right in what you say. The first would be that the higher the pressure, the harder it works the brass, and variances in brass cases (web strength, stretch factor) are more likely to show up at...

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

Bradu... should be about 2.800" or very close to that. It will vary due to bullet variations a bit... but average of 2.800 is what you'll find.

    180 grain .308 Sierra Gameking (2160) Long Range Accuracy/Stability

The Gamekings work better than most folks think. They're well made, and will give excellent accuracy. They should do fine to 1000 yards if you can keep them supersonic. It sounds like your load will work fine for you. Dan

Advanced Marksmanship Alternatives to prone for long range - Disabled shooter

Installing a muzzle brake, if permitted in the comps you'll be shooting in, can be a real asset to mitigating recoil. I've used the clamp on brakes from Kahntrol solutions with great results. I think the web address is kahntrol.com
