How many reloads to be safe?

big ed that's some great info... thanks for sharing that! :)

    OCW help please

The seating depth is simply a fine tuning stage of load development, done *after* you find the right powder charge. It affects barrel time, which affects the point on the muzzle's vibration pattern where the bullet is let go... you see one depth (2.31) that has two different points of impact...

    OCW help please

If that's the primer in the photo... it looks fine. Did all of the shots at that seating depth have sticky bolt lift? I see swipe on the case head, but I'd guess that more from case sizing being long... (did you just neck size these)... as I'd think that pressure issues would flatten the...

It looks like it's wanting to shoot close to 1/2 MOA at 200 yards... try the 2.280 again.

    OCW Accuracy/Scatter Node Question

Bill, as odd as it may sound, this does continue to be the case even to the heavy magnums... the 3% OCW skip pattern is *approximate* but it's generally true. And yes, the 1.5% interspersion of scatter nodes should hold true as well. When you shoot an OCW test, just cover a large enough range...

RCBS customer service has gone down the toilet!

ATK has Savage Arms now... I hope they don't screw them up as well... :(

    OCW help please

It's a guess, based on the bullet type (the longer, higher BC bullets can take more than 100 yards to stop yawing, which causes them to corkscrew around the perfect bullet path for a bit. Shot dispersion around a central point (nice, even triangles) at various powder charge levels makes me...

    Good Loads for .338 Lapua?

Our "go to" load with 300 grain bullets is 89.3 grains of Retumbo, Lapua case and magnum primer. Adjust seating depth to tighten group...

    OCW help please

I think you may be dealing with some bullet instability at the 100 yard point, but that's just a guess. I would work with 46.3 grains, and alter seating depths to see if things tighten up. The node around 46.3 looks to be pretty stable (as far as point of impact).

Sleuthing the Federal Gold Medal match load... Mk 316 Mod 0?

That probably is RL15... but that's a HEAVY charge of it, I know that when Lake City first started loading the RL15 the initial charges of M118LR were loaded too hot, and they did poorly in the middle east where temps go well above 100 degrees F. Many of us, upon seeing how much RL15 Lake City...

    OCW testing on the GAP.

The node looks to be at 47.2 grains... I'd be a bit wary of shooting that load in a gas operation action. The rounds wouldn't fit in the magazine anyway, it appears. (I'm guessing since we're single feeding in a bolt gun these are pretty long).

    OCW testing on the GAP.

Yes, the 46.2 would look like a good place to be. Even though the rifle is putting all of these bullets pretty much in the same place, a scatter node will make a larger group than the OCW node does... scatter at 47.8 would point to 47.2 grains. Great shooting rig! :) Dan

    OCW testing on the GAP.

I would guess 155's, Varget... in a .308 based on hitting node at mid 47's... Slight scatter at 47.8 would point back toward 47.2... Lapua brass I think. (?)

Remind me never and I mean never to order military brass again!

If the brass is chambering well enough, you don't need a small base die. It's just that with some machine gun chambers, they'll stretch the brass enough that it can be hard to size it down enough to make it easily chamber in a tight chamber... I have had trouble getting it to chamber in factory...

Remind me never and I mean never to order military brass again!

small base dies will help... but you can work it with a regular FL die. I just got another batch of stuff that was supposed to be LC... but it's mostly WCC (Winchester) and there's some oddball stuff in the mix as well. It looks almost as if Winchester is totally out of the brass making...

    280ai 180smk OCW

I think I agree that the 58 grain area should work. 58.2 with seating depth adjustments might get you where you want to be. I don't think those thrown shots were the rifle's doings... just too far from where they ought to be, and not really any rhyme or reason to where they landed. (speaking...

    Imr 4064

I think it'll be hard to get enough in the case to really move those bullets... Varget is shorter cut, so you can get more into the case (but it's still pretty heavily compressed in most .223 loads)... This isn't to say that you can't find a good load with 4064 if that's all you have to use...

How much material do you remove from Lake City primer crimps?

the Hornady reamer I have bottoms out in the primer pocket... it doesn't cut too deep. I'd rather have the Dillon swager, I believe (but I've never used one)... just heard many good reports about them.

Need a good starting point for savage 10fcp

work up to 42.1 grains with the 175's... and just over 45 grains with the 155's... you should see some promise in those areas with the H4895
