    Round count: Switch Barrels?

Actions tend to get smoother with age. Cycle a Remington 700 action enough and it will run smooth as butter.

    Rifle Scopes 6x48 screws only

Light high recoil rifle with heavy scope might merit oversize base screws. I would be concerned with, say, a 10 lb 300 win mag with a Razor Gen II and #6 base screws. As others have said, properly installed and fixed (Loctited) #6 base screws may suffice in applications less extreme than the one...

    Round count: Switch Barrels?

Most or all custom actions being produced these days should be good for a lifetime and then some. Unless the lugs gall or wear (unlikely with the materials/heat treatment/coatings) I bet a TL3 will last approx. a few days short of forever. Wear items like extractor or bolt stop might need to be...

    Spotting Scope Help Please

I have to agree entirely with this angled/straight comparison. I've always bought angled spotters, they are in my experience a little more versatile and I shoot alone frequently.

Rifle Scopes Midas BTR 4.5-27x50 APLR1

If the reticle subtends properly at 27x and because of poor light conditions or mirage you cannot really use max power on the scope, then you can't use the reticle (without some math on the fly) to range or hold. Much safer to have the reticle subtend properly at less than max power on such a...

A&D FX120i labscale reloading upgrade with V2 auto trickler review.

RL16 is some of the worst powder I've seen in terms of uniformity of granule size. It gives me great velocities and so far has shown good temperature stability, though, so it's worth it. I drilled and tapped 3 holes on the plastic base that came with my trickler (challenging since it's actually...

Accuracy International AXMC for first rifle - Am I crazy?

Really, you don't trust Long Rifles Inc? Only the .484 boltface bolt would need modification, but modifying all 3 would cost less than replacing a single bolt if you chose to do all 3. I'm sending my AX bolt to LRI with absolute confidence.

Accuracy International AXMC for first rifle - Am I crazy?

Since there's at least one gunsmith that will bush the firing pin hole in an AI bolt and reduce the firing pin diameter to SFP diameter for less than $200, this shouldn't present much of an obstacle IMHO. LRI small firing pin mod

Rifle Scopes Why do we obsess about scope rings....?

I don't obsess about scope rings or mounts, but I do buy quality precision rings and mounts in order to a. prevent damage to my $1500 to $3000 investment (scope) and b. increase the likelihood that the scope/rifle will hold zero despite being banged around at/to/from the range. What I consider...

Remington 700 SPS 300 Blackout Accuracy

3 MOA was the best I could get it to shoot a 5 shot group at 100 yards. Beyond 5 shots it was a lost cause, shooting at a silhouette at 500 yard was wasting ammo. I have no such issues with my AIAX or .223 AI or 6x47 Lapua. Problem with the AAC-SD was not the shooter, regardless of how much...

Remington 700 SPS 300 Blackout Accuracy

A Remington SPS Tactical AAC-SD is not a low cost Remington rifle. Remington AAC-SD Mine was unusable, after lots of experimentation with FGMM 168 and load development, it would become a 3 plus MOA gun less than 5 rounds into the day. Couldn't hit a full size silhouette at 500 yards.

Remington 700 SPS 300 Blackout Accuracy

Not untrue in my experience. The only 2 Remington 700s I bought had crap barrels.

Remington 700 SPS 300 Blackout Accuracy

I owned an AAC-SC (Rem 700 tactical with allegedly an upgraded barrel) and after a few rounds were fired, heating up the barrel, it would fling shots all over the place. Point is, Remington 700 barrels can be good or bad, there's no way of telling which you're getting until you shoot the rifle...

    Accuracy International Picture Thread

Enough to fit a Tenebraex scope cap on the Minox ZP5 or a Butler Creek on the S&B PMII. I run the cheek piece one click up from bottomed out, so there should be plenty of adjustment to go with a 3mm higher mount if you want to go that route.

    Accuracy International Picture Thread

I run a 4006 0n my AIAX. Sufficient height to clear a 56mm objective (so far I've run an S&B PMII, Razor Gen II , and currently a Minox ZP5) plus a lens cap. With the 0 MOA cant in the mount and the 20 MOA rail on the AX I get around 22 mil elevation travel available with any of the scopes I've...

Rifle Scopes Athlon Cronus - need help

I'm also skeptical that the setscrews have been removed. I just went through this myself, zeroing and setting the ZS on a Cronus, and it took me several tries to find the correct tiny hex key to fit the ZS setscrews.

Rifle Scopes Athlon Cronus - need help

If it were me I'd install the elevation knob and run the turret all the way down to jack the zero stop ring past the burrs. Apparently someone tightend the crap out of the zero stop set screws at some point. I've owned 2 different Cronuses, moved both around on a few rifles, setting the zero...

Rifle Scopes SWFA 5-20 HD vs Vortex Viper PST 5-25 Gen II

Optically the SWFA is better than the Gen II PST but I've always held off on buying the SWFA because the reticle is pretty lame IMHO. The Gen II PST is pretty hard to beat in terms of features/price. If I were in the market I'd probably opt for the Vortex even with the great deal for the SWFA...

A&D FX120i labscale reloading upgrade with V2 auto trickler review.

LOL. Yep, low hanging fruit... but to be fair I replace the hopper after I've emptied all the powder from the unit to keep contaminants out and that's typically how I store it. if vertical space was that much of a concern, leaving the hopper off could recoup some valuable real estate, although...
