    Not having varget sucks

Varget has been relatively available recently. It tends to sell out soon after it is available and some mail order sites are limiting customers to two bottles only. I bought some from Midway last month but they ran out shortly thereafter. If your mail order vendor has the ability to generate...

    Range Report G1or g7

G1 and G7 BCs for a particular bullet refer to the respective aerodynamic drag models applied based on the corresponding “standard projectile” shapes. The G1 shape resembles a flat-based bullet whereas the G7 shape resembles a modern boat tail VLD bullet. Banded BC models work better where...

It's a flash drive. You can dump the flash contents to your computer to save a copy of the existing flash drive directory structure and contents. The string-of-shots data are saved under the LBR directory within a subdirectory named after the date (using the subdirectory name convention of...

Advice for a 204 Ruger Upper Build?

Don’t use pmags with a 204r. The pmags have internal guide ribs that abut the shoulders of a 223 cartridge. The shoulders of a 204r are farther forward and bind against the guide ribs which not only limits capacity but also reduces feeding reliability of the rounds you can fit in.

Advice for a 204 Ruger Upper Build?

Good point. A 20 practical (223 necked down to 20) has similar ballistics and feeds and functions well any 223 ar15 mag (including pmags). Plus brass is cheaper unless you build an accuracy rig and use lapua brass (which is exceptional). Downside is that you have to handload. Dies can be...

Looking for light trigger with no creep

I wasn’t aware that the pull weight was adjustable. How does one do that? The limited documentation doesn’t discuss this.

...Interesting Post on 224V Accuracy Issues

Longer barrels aren’t necessarily more precise. To the contrary, given two different length barrels of the same contour, the shorter barrel will be stiffer which is conducive to precision. 18” bull barrel woa upper below. Group on the left is at 100yds; group on the right is at 200yds.

    Coyote AR

These will fit into the 4-rnd stainless mags which will let you load to just under 2.30” coal. I’m getting 3067fps (measured with a labradar) using varget. ~1400fps retained velocity at 1000yds. These require at least a 1:9” twist. I chose a 1:8” twist so I could optionally shoot berger 105gr...

    Coyote AR

+2.2” at 200 and -2.6” at 350 yds. If you don’t consider that within minute of yote then you can always zero closer and problem solved. Regardless, it can shoot very flat at short ranges.

Some cartridges can do both. 243 wssm with 55gr nosler at 4100+ will shoot point blank to 350 yds. With a 20 moa cantilevered base/mount and 95gr sierra tmk, you can reach out and touch something out to 1000 yds. I am using the latter with a 36x target scope and use a 20p for near stuff.

Help me get started with 223 AR loading

You can use all your precision loading techniques for .223 AR loads except that instead of bumping back shoulders ~0.001” inch (for bolt guns) bump the shoulders back ~0.003. Definitely get a brass catcher - some attach to a rail while others use a velcro strip that wraps around the float tube.

    Coyote AR

The 20p is a great cartridge. Near 204r ballistics but better feed and function in an ar (204r doesn’t work well with pmags, for example). Using redding 223 type s full length bushing die with redding competition shell holders to control amount of shoulder bump (.003 - .005 for an ar). And two...

    Coyote AR

I purchased two dtech uppers, a 20 practical and a 243 wssm so you can obviously infer my preferences. Suggest you think through what your requirements and constraints are and give Mike at dtech a call. He’s quite knowledgeable about the wssm calibers and their limitations in an AR. BTW I have...

    Coyote AR

I think your wind drift assumption is wrong. An AR coyote rifle needs to operate with mag length loads or else you might as well build a single shot 6br bolt action rifle. Max mag length load in an AR15 is ~2.30” (unless you do really kludgy things like cutting up the leading edge of the mag)...

To my knowledge neither Olympic Arms nor Dtech sold the proprietary parts to do-it-yourselfers. Rim size is ~0.535”.

    Ruger Precision Rifle Discussion

Some early 6mm creed RPRs were jammed to the lands with factory 108 ammo. Berger 105 hybrids loaded to mag length (pmag) were also jammed. You could easily see the rifling marks if you cycled a loaded round. But the thing shot so well that I decided to live with it.

    Coyote AR

Dtech uses a larger diameter bolt and barrel extension, as well as a beefier upper receiver. Feeding is fine. Pro: 6mm Creedmoor ballistics in a small frame AR. Con: modified mags with limited capacity (single stack). Dtech is a quality boutique builder who has put together thousands(!) of...

    Coyote AR

Dtech 243 wssm upper with a shilen select match barrel. Will shoot sierra 95gr MK and TMK bullets out to 1000 yds despite having been loaded to mag length. You can shoot heavier bullets but probably will have to single load. Brass availability is pretty good now due to Hornady entering the...

    240 Weatherby Loads

This manual includes most of the published (by bullet and powder manufacturers) load data for 240 Wby: https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Reloading-Manual-Weatherby-Magnum/dp/B0032CPT9A Load data for newer powders is somewhat difficult to find. I have a semi-custom 240 Wby Mark V with a Krieger...
