    Back in the olden days, that would be before 2000. Colt and others made conversion kits for AR 15 to shoot 22LR. The twist on those old rifles was 1-12, then it went to 1-8 comerical and 1-7 Nato.

    Oiling the mating surfaces would theoretically change the torque values. To be consistant you would need to have the same oil and the same amount on the mating surfaces each time you torqued the screws.

    Interesting topic. In short, you want the slowest twist that will stabilize the bullet you want to shoot at the speed and distance you want to shoot it. You can less than stabilize a bullet, too slow a twist for the bullet, but can't over stabilize a bullet too fast of a twist, within reason...
