Gunsmithing My 300-338 Lapua Magnum Project

the bullets biggest enemy is RPM more than velocity, which is why he's using the 17 twist. Although I'm sure they've never tested them at that velocity, so guess we'll find out if they can handle it. Sent from my GS5 on Tapatalk

Gunsmithing How are barrels marked by custom small shops?

I have less than $50 in the machine, search for diy etching machine, it's on a knife makers site. Stencils are more than the machine, around $70 for 8.5x11 sheet with the initial art charge. Then electrolyte and cleaner, figure around $120 for initial order from Lectro etch if your not getting a...

    Gunsmithing PTG Bolt Problem

I think someone else could start making bolts and do well along side them, obviously they are not easy and require quite a bit of specialized equipment though. Sent from my GS5 on Tapatalk

    Gunsmithing Problems w/ custom rifle

That is not normal. it appears the section that blew out is probably .1" diameter oversize Also the case looks very straight walled, like it is almost that diameter all the way to the shoulder, hard to say for sure on that. This could have been caused simply by goofing up on pre boring and...

    Gunsmithing Problems w/ custom rifle

What plug is this you speak of? I believe the shape of the failure is an anomaly due to a weakness in that particular piece of brass, betting if you take a unfired round and hand load it into the chamber that you can wiggle the base of it back and forth quite a bit. Sent from my GS5 on Tapatalk

    Gunsmithing Problems w/ custom rifle

Agree with 300, the web of both cases appear to be way blown out. Looks like the rear of the chamber is oversize, maybe the whole chamber hard to say. Or the bolt nose counter bore is too deep. I don't see how the base screw is in question here, unless the Smith for whatever dumbass reason...

Rifle Scopes How have the k624i Kahles been holding up?

Maybe I should clarify... I don't mean in between two clicks, it may have sounded that way. I just mean make sure it's right in the particular detent not on the edge of it. Otherwise if you set your zero there it won't repeat to that same spot every time. Sorry my words aren't working better...

Rifle Scopes How have the k624i Kahles been holding up?

Sounds like you just need to align the zero better once you set it, make sure your are right in the middle of a click when you set the zero also. I'm running a promo right now, get a free set of ARC M10 rings with the purchase of any 6-24. Pm me if you're interested in getting one. Have msrk in...

Rifle Scopes How have the k624i Kahles been holding up?

Gen 2 also had the detents up until about 4 months ago or so. Other improvements include reducing torque required to turn Parallax by 20% and increasing diopter adjustment torque by 40%. The detents are easily removed by Kahles if you have them and don't like them. Sent from my GS5 on Tapatalk

    Gunsmithing lathes

3ph motors are generally better quality, you'll find a lot of guys having issues with single phase motors especially Chinese ones. I believe 3ph have better braking even without a vfd. Also if I'm not mistaken if you run 3ph on true 3ph power you can instant reverse the spindle, if you do that...

    Gunsmithing Chamber out of spec

If one were so inclined, you can actually gain velocity over a properly headspaced barrel by chambering it deep. You would HAVE to make sure youre only bumping the shoulders .002, but you do gain case capacity. But like Chad said, no real telling when/if that initial web stretch will come back...

6.5CM, Issues with 140 AMAX in 8 Twist Edit: Bad Lot of AMAX

Latest update after I inquired about the status yesterday. Not too thrilled about this as Ive already been waiting about that long. When I had the bad lot of Berger, they reached out to a distributor to send back in 15 boxes so they could replace mine ASAP. Jon Thank you for your email...

6.5CM, Issues with 140 AMAX in 8 Twist Edit: Bad Lot of AMAX

Be careful assuming that. I had a bad lot of Berger 130s at the same exact time, 0.001" oversize. Now some rifles this wouldn't cause issues, but with a match reamer and the freebore is only 0.0005" larger than bullet diameter, it causes major feeding issues. That being said they still shot...
