    Interesting question, perhaps better suited for the reloading section? Not sure on accuracy change with just the tip. A lot also has to do with bullet weight consistency though, and cheap bullets probably won't be very consistent in weight either. You could weigh them after you pull the bullet...

    Yeah, the sierra stuff is basically in stock from before all the issues in the US. Cheaper than lapua currently. 280 per 1000 of the 175SMK, vs 325/1000 for the 185gr scenars or 360/1000 for the fmjbt ps. have you done any OCW testing with vihtavuori powders in 308?

My gut says it would be easier to get something fairly heavy like the 175gr SMK up to a decent velocity (as to retain supersonic flight up to 1000y) rather than something...

    I'm no hunter, but reading quite a few of these threads, you might want to go with a lower power scope. Whats wrong with your 3x9? If just the quality, not so much the magnification range, just get a better 3x9 scope.

    After some calculations on other setups i could find, low rings would be really pushing it. Will go with the medium. Can always swap them with the lows on the rimfire if I don't like it.
