Gunsmithing whats your favorite reamer holder

You can find a relationship between precision shooting and ammo runout, both mathematically and empirically. This was explained by the army, the NRA, and A. ABBATIELLO "Gauging Bullet Tilt", with up to 2 moa involved, and the chamber bending the ammo straight beyond .004" runout. There is not...

Looking for a good starting load for 7.62x54r

I have a dozen Mosin Nagants, the best accuracy / precision is the one I converted to .223. I think most every cartridge has the same accuracy potential, but what really helps is a heavy rifle and a light bullets. Mosin Nagant with Rem700 .222 barrel reamed out to .223 and manual magazine...

    Gunsmithing Savage 110E Bolt problem

I had a couple of Sav 110 bolts taken apart and was trying to put longer bolt handles on. I ran into some problems. Then I had a cleaning patch stuck in a 223 chamber neck and the the thing went over pressure. The case head got big and stuck. When I smacked it out of the bolt head, I lost the...

Looking for a good starting load for 7.62x54r

I have been shooting MNs for 12 years. I have converted them to 45/70, 30-30, 7mmRemMag, 300WM, and soon 257 Krag Ackley. In 7.62x54R original military barrels, I start out with 180 gr .311" pro hunter Sierra bullets and work up until the bolt is hard to lift. Then I back off two grains. That is...

Gunsmithing whats your favorite reamer holder

I use a home made tap holder that rides on a low compliance surface, the compound [to prevent chattering], but I lift it up occasionally with my finger to verify the toque is low [to prevent dulling and eccentricity] as a feedback loop on how fast I can advance the tailstock. I push the reamer...

    Your pets loads for 7mmRM

140 gr Nos Bal Tip moly coated 70 gr H4350, 3.34", standard reamer, but 0.215" headspace, not 0.220" SAAMI. That is ~ 2 gr below measurable extractor groove growth at 40 degrees F. That is ~ 11 gr above Hodgdon published load. That is with a jug of powder that is 4% charge change slower than...

    Gunsmithing Mauser Build

Braz VZ24 7x57mm from Century Oberndorf 1908 Braz 8x57 from Century Oberndorf 1903 Turk Mausers from Century I have been sporterizing Mausers for 49 years. I love it, but I would warn you about two things: 1) It is not typically cost effective. 2) Kuhnhausen's book on Mausers must be taken...

    What reloading equipment to purchase

The best thing to do is go to a friend's place who reloads, have him show you how he does it and loan you enough stuff to do it. The next best thing is to watch youtube videos and buy the cheapest stuff possible and try it for a while. I have been buying reloading equipment and supplies ~~ once...

Barrett MRAD 338 and 300 WIN

I have 338WM, 300WM, and 7mmRM reamers. In building those rifles I try to get a lifetime supply of brass and headspace for the longest case space to end of belt. In no wind, if the rifles with scope and bipod were all 10 pounds, the 7mmRM with 140 gr boat tails is going to shoot the best at 500...

Gunsmithing Any tips for measuring/mixing Devcon?

Epoxy is good for ~ 20kpsi in compression. If you look at the area of epoxy, the torque on the action screws, the pitch of the threads, and subtract off 50% screw friction, ... you will see that epoxy is way stronger than it needs to be for rifle bedding. If you mix epoxy at different rations...

6mm or 7mm BR for long range??

I have the 6mmBR, 243, and 6mmRem reamers. For long range, you want lots of powder and lots of bullet. The target guys have to cut back to make weight and barrel life. But for hunting, 7mmRM is the answer.

    Reloading 257 Roberts Question

Consider 115 gr Nosler Ballistic tip and work up a load with H4350. 3050 fps was bang flop for this buck so big he drags his nose on the butcher's floor, like an elk.

    45/70 Reduced Loads

If the case has a metal filler, 1 gr of pistol powder can move a 155 gr bullet at 400 fps. That will stop a 20 pound coon with a body shot and sound like a BB gun. Even if it is legal to shoot at your house, if you start shooting at coons coming out of your hen house at midnight, the neighbors...

    45/70 Reduced Loads

Almost any powder seems to work in the 45/70, rifle or pistol, but for what you are asking Unique. I have worked up in 405 gr cast from 15 gr up to 32 gr case destruction. I imagine you could work down to a few gr. The 405 will not fire with just the primer, but the Lead balls will. It is a...

Pistol reloading from glock. How do I do it?

I bought 3 Glocks 15 years ago, with different case supports: 1) Glock 19 9mm feed ramp intrusion 0.190", case web thickness 0.160" -> 0.030" of thin case wall unsupported, can shoot 60% extra powder before case bulge 2) Glock 22 40sw feed ramp intrusion 0.235", case web thickness 0.180" ->...
